Hi All, In a previous thread there was discussion about whether you are rear or front foot orientated. Someone said there's no right or wrong (it just effects where you set your foil). Someone else said rear foot pressure makes the board snaky, slower and less stable. I'm still learning and can now do some long runs on foil (not up to gybing on foil). Some runs are now feeling pretty stable others are still a bit out of control.
I've noticed I foil with weight more on my back foot (probably a hangover from surfing and windsurfing). It feels comfortable but am I doing it wrong? Do I need to learn to put the majority of my weight on the front foot?
Cheers
That is correct. Some like to feel the foil pushing up on their front foot others do not. I prefer to input using the rear foot like surfing. Not sure anyone has analysed which is faster. Some foils feel better for front foot bias some better for rear foot bias. Demo as many foils as you can before you move onto your next foil.
I can only relate a story....
My rear foot lives above the mast of my AXIS foil regardless of kite or wing. But I have the foil completely forward on the wing board and completely back on the kite board.
I made the mistake of having the foil completely forward on kite board one day and figured it would be no big deal. Well which ever leg was riding forward was in agony after a kilometre. All front foot pressure. I tried to shuffle back but I ran out of board.
I learnt my lesson and have always worked to get an even weight on both legs.
With more experience you will find your balance point. Shuffle round a little till find what is comfortable.
You want to be as balanced as possible with no pain in either leg on log runs.
I prefer to be slightly front foot bias, this helps when you are doing foot switches
There is a moment when more weight is forward and if you are too back foot bias the board will touch down and you will probably fall.
