Some guys have this with booms including me so switched to Unit handles a while back and now no problems.
Don't know if this will help I find sometimes I grip the boom to hard, resulting in golfers elbow and forearm pain
I've learnt to swap to an underarm/underhand grip, feels weird to start with but it works
A friend does tai chi and there are excersises to help relax your grip .
Another thing is sometimes your either under or over powered causing you to grip harder.
I use a platinum boom,hope this helps.
I just did an hour on a new soft-handled, two-handled wing in overpowered conditions and it reaggravated a decade old case of golfer's elbow from kiting. I was lit on a 4.5 and found that I couldn't grab forward enough on the front handle to depower the wing. I've since added a homemade handle from the front handle to the flag handle I can use again when I'm super lit to take pressure off my front forearm and elbow. I've never had this issue with rigid handles, booms or multi-soft-handled wings. I also added a harness line on the wing even though I normally don't bother with them on on wings smaller than 5.0. Part of the issue is that this wing is so new and it's canopy is so tight it doesn't have that cushiony feeling of my older wings cut with less canopy tension and slightly bagged out.
Does the new sls boom eliminate the annoying forearm burn on the duotone silver and platnum boom
The sls boom is much better as thinner. Once you try it you will never want to use a thick boom again ![]()

This is a interesting comment as I know a few guys who tried the SLS booms and didn't like them, found they would "over grip" the smaller diameter. I guess hand size must come into it too.

YES
The skinniest boom wins.
It's the same issue with gloves. Don't EVER use gloves. Go bare hands and build up the callouses.
I find that individual hard oval handles with their own unique angle are best at preventing fatigue. That said, I much prefer winging with a boom. I think that it depends on the size of your hands and how you grip. I have the regular thick carbon mini boom, but I'm hoping to pick up an SLS boom at some point.
I earned golfer arm aka tennis elbow. Fxxx how to recover? Seems like it's forever :(
I had persistent elbow tendonitis for more than a year. Finding the right exercises with a Thearaband Flexor fixed this within 3 days. Details at boardsurfr.blogspot.com/2010/05/no-more-tennis-elbow.html
Jo and thanx! I gonna dive into it. I also read it isn't really inflammation and but more cramped muscles. I started stretching. It's better now. Like always... Docs give u pills and cortisone and don't have clue what the talking about.
This isn't windsurfing. Don't grip too hard.
Exactly. No need to grip too hard. Adjust the angle of the wing so that the pull is evenly distributed between you hands, and keep both of your arms extended most of the time. Don't know about the DT wings, but with some wings you can also slightly over-sheet the wing with your back hand to reduce the power. So instead of sliding your hands further forward you can move front hand quite a bit further back, and over-sheet. Keep sliding your hands around in the handles a lot like in the video below (starting from 01:45), variety is the key.

The Kauper XT Tyron wing has a very thin carbonboom, I like a lot.
And stretching for me is the way to treat and prevent tennis or golfer elbow...

Do you mean we should press into the harness loop when going upwind leaning over at 45 deg to unload all the body weight off the hands and fingers?

Try eating more tendons. No joke. It's a rich source of collagen. Also try rubbing some arnica oil onto clean skin, followed by DMSO spray and massage it in. Also consume lots of mineral salts. eg. Boost Sea Minerals. And Vit-C in the form of sodium ascorbate. At night, before sleep.
Try an under-grip with the front hand during aggressive pumping while you have the tennis elbow problem. Also check the range of motion in your shoulders and fix them if not working properly, since a shoulder issue will cause overload of the forearms.
Learn to use a harness if you are not already.
Avoid doing tedious repetitive stuff with your injured arm(s) like using a computer mouse.
If someone tells you to work on strengthening your arms, then punch them in the head and ask them if they still think your arms are weak. Of course provoke them to make the first strike attempt. Just kidding.
Duotone suggest the handles on their 2024 Unit improve comfort because they are angled. If that's true, can a straight boom ever compete?

Hi jy77, the sls boom helps , rafly 20% better. You could do forearm exercises with some dumbells, gym. Or try with a harness. The duetone lines are pretty good, any cheep harness will do. Hope that helps.

Local shop owner said that even Duotone are aware that winging is causing a lot of repetitive use injury issues. and they mentioned to him to educate his customers on using their shoulders more than their arms. So something to concentrate on when out on the water people.
