Hi folks
For those who jump, what size front wing are you running? Aspect ratio? Keen to give it a go but need to get myself a new front wing. I am on the Slingshot foils and currently using the Infinity 84 for winging and which is too big and slow.
I am considering the Gamma 68

or
The Infinity 65

Cheers
I think a longer mast it's more important than the front wing. I jump with no problems with a 1850.the 1250 it's nicer but both work well

Both the Gamma 68 and Infinity 65 are very small foils for winging. These are really good foils for windsurfing on foil but not for wing ding. If you are looking for a slingshot foil try the infinity 76. A foil in the 1200-1300cm2 range jumps well. Speed and long masts help.
any size front wing jumps as long as you get decent speed approaching the bump. for best boost and hang time, hold down a bigger wing. have fun
.. and dun forget to get yr feet into yr footstraps tight.
Jumping is fun.
Any rider will break gear.
Bigger rider's break more gear.
Don't expect warrantees to apply.![]()
I used to fly Slingshot foils until I started jumping. They are too big and heavy for jumping IMO. The whole system got all loose and wonky when I jumped on it. I would recommend that if you are ready to take it to the air, that you switch brands. I went Axis and am super happy. I think that having a lightweight medium to high aspect front wing is more proper to jump than a heavy low aspect. To jump you will want speed and pop. The higher aspect foils will enable this. As far as straps go, be careful. You can break both ankles if you taco and can't get out of straps. Please don't crank down your straps tight like was recommended above. Spend some time dialing in your feet position and tightness with straps before you start hucking. It took me a bunch of sessions to work this out. It changes when you move mast or swap out wings. I disagree with the comment on longer mast being good for jumping. Anything around the 70-85cm is about right. Slingshot hoverglide gear is great to learn on but has limitations for advancing. You are going to start being bothered by drag for the next year. Once you get on a slippery, low drag foil you will understand. You will also probably want a smaller board like close to your body weight in liters. I am 82KG and ride an 80L. Send it!!!!
Straps should be set tight slalom or modern freestyle.
Board should be as short as possible.
Shorter masts bend less, and exert less force on the board than longer masts.
And remember, snowboard bindings don't release, and very few snowboarders get injured by non release bindings.
LeeD, your logic is stuffed once again.
Snowboard bindings totally enclose your feet, thereby making it virtually impossible to break your ankle. I am yet to see a footstrap that totally encloses the foot. Hence why people can break their ankles if their straps are not adjusted correctly for what they prefer.
Your logic is yet again flawed you goose!

Last I heard you never even had a single session on the wingding? Let alone jumped one?
Does Rafael Nadal's tennis coach need to be a good tennis player? His best ranking was equal to USTA 4.0.
What? You can't cross info from one sport to another?
Martyj4....in ski and snowboard, it's knees.
Knowledge and advice is universal between sports. You jump, you risk breaking stuff. This applies to wingfoil, windfoil, windsurf, aerial surfing, motocross, bmx.
Add weight, you increase risks.
Nothing new. Are you sooo blind to think wingsurf can defy simple physics?
LeeD I'm sure it's happened but I am yet to hear about anyone damaging their knees due to overly tight footstraps. Ankle damage is far more common, and I believe that's what the above comments were referencing. So I still don't understand why you'd reference snowboard bindings when they are not something that anyone uses for wingdinging?? And they don't work in anywhere near the same way as footstraps. In case you were unaware (as you seem to be) snowboard bindings don't allow ankle movement, but footstraps do. Do you comprehend that?
I have seen a lot of experience sailors with loose footstraps so they have ankle movement. Others have their straps tighter. It boils down to personal preference. One rule does not work for everyone.
You are absolutely full of it.
Sorry Marty, your tunnel vision and lack of understanding is really making you look really......what's the word, besides literal tunnel vision.
Expand your thinking.
Knees, ankles, hips.....same catagory injury.
Snowboard bindings don't release, causing thousands of narrow minded skiers to say they blow your knees out. But they don't! Why? Because snowboards are typicly short, and two feet spread 21" apart can handle sub 165 lengths in windmill falls.
If you can't apply that to wing jumping, I feel sorry for you.![]()
As I suck at windfoil, I also suck winging.
Why?
Because 20 days a month, I am sailing around on 90 liter boards, 5 meter sails, going as fast as all but the very fastest windsurfers, and jumping 1-3 meters up off 1/2 meter chop. San Francisco area, you know, is known for windsurfing.
The windsurfers I sail with all have clocked 35+ on slalom and fast freeride gear.
That leaves 5 days a month for windfoil, and 2 for winging.

Don't feed the troll. He is not worth the time responding.
I did my knee kitesurfing in straps. One foot came out attempting an arial, landing was unpleasant. Fractures above and below knee, MCL torn off bone and PCL snapped. Surgeon opted not to operate, and it is still going ok at 58. I just use a front strap for location of feet and only have toes in it.
Saying that a mate dislocated his ankle and snapped his fibula wingdinging with no straps and not jumping, go figure.
Back on topic - anything can jump. Slingshot stuff is usually solid, I had the Outwit and it was light but strong as a few rocks I ran into will testify. Faster wings will jump higher I would assume.
"I would a..ume"
Ya dink?
Our argument still stands. I bolted the 3 lbs. Naish 1150 to my Hover 122 with 65 mastlength and it's pretty stable, AS YOU SAID.
Unfortunately, I also tried the almost 6 lbs 1220 foil on the 70 masts and momentum of that extra weight at the end of a 70 cm pendalum makes it mess up the timing of the righting moment.
You have never tried SUP with the '18-19 Naish mast using a 6 lbs. foil.
The '18-'19 Naish has the shortest chord length of ANY foil mast sold. And you didn't know that.
I'm loving jumping my Axis 830 HPS it's just over 1000 cm2. Extra speed helps going big as does a longer mast, I get more height with my 82cm mast than my 75. That extra acceleration you get just as you launch really help get you further around with Flakas
For the normal people, 3 lbs is 1.3kg, 6 lbs is 2.6 kg. Seems mast lengths are metric in the US. Who knew?

My Armstrong 1200/72 is ok for hops (like below testing the Matador .. good wing in 40knts) but I am setting up a Naish 85 + ha1240/ha1150 and see if it goes higher/further
.. will update

..by the way @Hilly, that's yr 72 mast + cf1200 and +1 shim airborne ... hhh
Reviving this thread (which took a turn in an unproductive direction). What foils are people liking for freestyle/jumping?
Ive been jumping on 800-1100 sqcm, ~9+ AR foils (H800 and 1095), but I think I could push a little harder into my launch with a slightly lower aspect foil. Based on my understanding the higher aspect foil should have better pop, but I find that the high AR foils get a bit twitchy when you are loading them up before the pop. Anybody else feeling this?
Would be interesting to try something around ~1000 sqcm / 6-7 AR, which feels like it could be a sweetspot for me, but curious what other people are using.
I love the Armstrong 925, faster and pops really well. Find it easier for landing as well. Combined with a longer mast and a "small" board, 70L i weight 88kg without gear. It's a great combo.

I've been jumping on the phantom f1 1080 , but recently bought the new eagle 790 with the xxxs fuse and 210 stab. My jumps are a lot higher as I can use a bigger hand wing with this foil for the given wind speeds and the foil is a lot faster , it's definitely twitchy though.
