I'm looking at buying a Fanatic Aero Foil 2000 and wondering if there is any feedback from those in the know on this foil. I am 85kg and looking at my first wing setup. I understand they are a heavier foil but also seem accomodating and well made. Any thoughts on Fanatic foils would be appreciated. I will pair it with approximately a 5m wing and a higher volume board. I am experienced in windsurfer, kiting and sup built no foil.
Thanks for any advice.
You should be good! I wind and wing using Fanatic foils. For winging I use and learned on the HA 1750 set. (I had already gone through most of my foiling lumps windfoiling.) I also weigh 85kgs. Yes the weight is a thing, but rock solid and Bomb proof imo. My SS friends are constantly shearing bolts and getting wobbly, but two years in and I've had no problems at all. (I replace the bolts every 6 months just because.)
I spent my first year on the fanatic aero 2000. I've just moved to a high aspect foil and its made me realise how good the fanatic was. Super stable, great lift except too much when on a half decent wave when it's hard to keep it in the water, so easy to learn transitions. It is heavy but that's not a bad thing when learning as it sits in the water after wiping out so there is less chance of it flipping and attacking your wing. It is slow but I'd recommend it to anyone learning. I'm about 80kg.
Fanatic make a good product, however very little uptake of users here on the West Coast. This means very little 2nd market demand for Fanatic. You will likely outgrow a 2000cm2 wing quickly once you have mastered the basics. I would recommend you consider looking at one of the major foil specific brands e.g AXIS, ARMSTRONG, GOFOIL or MOSES. These foil brands have plenty of parts available and are tried and tested to work.
