Hi, I've recently upgraded to a fanatic/duotone all carbon set up with the 1000 front wing (I moved down from a 1750). The 1000 aero free is fantastic and easier than i expected. I'm 76kg and using a 98l board.
question is, do I need a bigger foil for lighter winds (12knots plus) or can I get away with the 1000?
Any advice appreciated.
I'd say yes, you need a bigger wing for light days. It'd pair well with a 1305 Glide wing set.
I don't tend to use my aero free 1000 until it's over 15kts. It's a bit too draggy on light days. I'm the same weight and board size.
I find the 1000 fun once the swells are above at least a meter high. Below that I use my 1500HA.
I use the 1000 when there is stable wind for a 4.5 (82kg) Above I love the 1250, which I use mostly with my 5.5, but also when gusty 4.5 conditions apply. The new 1500 I use together with my Ventis 7.0 as it takes its load better and gets me going earlier and with better upwind than with the 1250.
The smallest Free is a 800, the biggest 2000 now DT labeled. That makes the 1000 biased towards higher rather than lower winds. But that's kind of definition and depending on where you live.
Sounds like I need a bigger front wing!
Does anybody have any spare wings for sale? Looks like the glide 1305 or similar would be a good bet.
