Just wondering if there is any difference between the 7m sls and 6.5 mod3 apart from 1/2 metre.
Anyone tried both ?..
there's about $400 price differences
thx
I had the 7m SLS and now have the 6.5m Mod3 v3 Slick.
The 7m SLS low end was not as good as my original 7m Slick but in all other respects it was a better wing than the original.
The 6.5m v3 matches or is very close to the low end performance of the 7m SLS and adds better handling and overpowered manners.
I have a few hundred hours on the 6.5m v3 now and its become a bit of a go to wing for me in our summer conditions.
(For context I found out early that the Ventis was coming out and bought an 8m for very light wind conditions but the difference in wind between 8m and being able to get out on the 6.5m v3 is very small. The 8m wins upwind and for ultimate lazy light wind get up and go)
Only you can decide if the cost difference is worth it to you.
If you want a 7m for good lightwind performance and low cost maybe look out for an original Slick 7m?
Those 6.5m mod3 Slicks are unobtainable. They sold out quick and are near impossible to find in the US. Grab one if you can find one.
I recently sold my 6.5m Slick 2023 and replaced it by a 7m Ventis.
The 6.5m was above a 5.5 as my center wing, which I absolutely love. The 6.5 was for my 1.81m not that easy to pump at it's very low end. Tipps hard to keep off surface. Even though the measurements of span are very close to the 7m ventis, the ventis sits differently in its to be pumped position. The ventis is really a genious wing (thanks Ken Winner) as I can pump onto foil as soon as it carries itself. Very grunty whilest totally stable and controllable in gusts. It's fun to freeride and only downside is that my pockets aren't deep enough for the dlab version as the weight difference to my 5.5 slick is significant.
I've paired it with the new Free 1500 Front and it's a perfect Combo as the 1500 still has a lot of liveliness of its smaller 1250 sibbling, but gets you going significantly earlier. I could not try 1750 though, but expect worse top speed I would not want to give up.
