Defi kite was last week, Defi Wind is next week & today was Day 1 of Defi Wing. Gruissan on fire.
Great stuff!
Defi Wind is this week, starting tomorrow afaik.
The Frenchman in the lead won the Defi Kite too.![]()
There's a bit of carnage with some when the wake of the boat hits them when they are too close. At least if you were a few metres away, you'd have time to prepare for passing through the wake.
Would love to see drone footage and stats of Axel Mazella. He dominated both the Defi Kita and Defi Wing. Encroyable!
Can't find the course distance or rider times published anywhere, would be nice to calculate average speed at least
With as much breeze as they had, I suspect they were on tiny foils. I wonder how small. Seems like the goto size is somewhere in the 500cm2 ballpark for the GWA events but it hasn't been nearly as windy at those events as what they had at DEFI.
"For the firsts, average speed 30kts, top speed at 32.8kts during the race, and 36.8kts for Mathis Ghio outside of the race"
Been chatting to the DefiWing people and they said you can click on the rider and it will show you the timings and they have just added the calculated speed to results. Currently it's in minutes/km but they are going to change it to knots.

Something still wrong with the numbers though, you get the same timing and speed for every race. Have let them know, hopefully they fix it.
All indications are that the wing foilers could give the wind foilers and the fins a good run for their money, so much for dinging is slow and boring ![]()

Bit of quick maths has #1 at 30.7 knots avg. speed. Puts it into perspective really.
So Ozone first and third with OR second?
Once again proving that the material is less important than the pilot. Ozone would be about the last wing I would choose if I wanted to go fast with it's fat LE and relatively low AR. A well built basic wing but not fast. Apparently I would be wrong...

He's on the new ones, they look very low profile. Although they could be prototypes made just for Defi

He used the Ozone Fly v1 which has already been released at the start of the year and the new ozone flux v1 which is being released in around a month, it's meant to be a race wing and has hard handles, Johnny Heineken won a regatta in San Francisco last month with the wing.
.
I believe these are the new sizes and it only comes in white :)

Also @ThatSpec when everyone is used 2.5-3.5m wings it impossible to make a HA wing unless you want to use only 1 handle ![]()

also the materials do not matter nearly as much as foils and rider weight+technique/skill, racing in 25-45knots
