Anyone made their own daggerboard/fin and attached to sup to learn early stages for winging was thinking of rigging up something temporary (strap) don't want to put holes in sup.

What works best is screwing a fin (or a foil mast) on a wooden plank kept in place with straps around the board:

Like the pics below, but with a much bigger plank:

A bit of Info here.
Windwing on a longboard | Stand Up Paddle Forums, page 1 (seabreeze.com.au)

I built myself these for each side of the board.
It would be better to add a longer bit of wood on top or bottom to prevent them vom tilting to one side.

Were OK to practice until I got my foilboard.

edit: when you get faster the strap starts to vibrate

Buy the Slingshot Supwinder if you're not using an inflatable. Save all that time mucking around. For under $200 you can't go wrong.

I'm about to learn to Wing on my SUP. Don't want to start sticking things on the underside, so hoping to be able to make progress upwind without a "daggerboard" of some sort. I've seen a few videos where it looks like it can be done.

What will work best, (upwind, cross wind and downwind) - a 9'6 surf-sup with a big centre-fin, or a 12'6 raceboard again with a big centre fin? (Both are hard-sup's)

Thanks

I have an 11ft Blue Planet which is a little beat up. I put a finbox 1mtr up from the tail. 10" fin in front 9" at back. Works OK. But from talking to wing foilers, that is where the upwind works. Cost about $20 with box, resin and glass.
