Hello Wing Aficionados,
I am looking at taking my first bold leap into Wing Foiling in the next weeks. I have windsurfed since the early 80s, so pretty proficient there. I've also foiled for the last 2 1/2 years so reasonably proficient on the foil as well.
My question is regarding wings. I am going to buy new but looking at options, I am keen for points of view on:
Duotone vs Slingwing vs Cabrinha vs . . . . . . . . you tell me.
I plan on getting out in lighter conditions initially, so planning on going with a 5m.
I weight 80kgs and am 170cm tall. I think I have the board and foil decisions made, but advice on the right wing would help.
Cheers.
Go have a look at Supboarder test: www.supboardermag.com/2020/11/28/5m-wing-test-2020-supboarder-pro-head-to-head/
Airush Freewing wins Best Getting Started Wing and best overall score (Combined Best getting Started - Freeride - Wave/Surf). The test looks quite thorough.

Awesome - will do.
take your pick..so many choices these days. Well done to supboarder for testing this lot. Smik and F-one leading the way in wave riding. Free ride market is pretty open with many good wings available.

Odd that the Slingwing V2 or the Duotone Unit weren't included in the Supboarder test. There will be a number of new wings forthcoming -- North will have one -- it is popular among those who have tested it. Also, Cabrinha may have another new one out shortly. Slingshot has a new wing called the DART, which may be introduced in the next few months.
I contacted the guys from Supboarder in oct about a wing and asked about the Echo/Unit and they told me that Duotone didn't send a Unit so that is why they couldn't test one. There is plenty of good gear, but not every brand wan,ts to be compared with the competition...
I have Echo,s wich aren,t labeled as good starter wings. In a a way it makes sense because have more the tendecy to roll and flip over on the water as most other wings BUT, once you grab the boom they have a very positive controlled feel that as a windsurfer I miss a bit by the handle type wings. Because of that as a windsurfer I like them as a starterwing and for general going back of forth. When you want to catch waves...I would look elsewhere because then there are better wings.
The PPC wing out of NZ didn't win a specific category in the SUP Boarder wing test, but placed very well in all categories and I'd consider it to be one of the best all rounders. I am looking to trade in my f-one in for it as soon as I can get my hands on one. They are selling out fast!

Try an ENSIS wing if you live in Melbourne or Perth!!!

Why Melb or Perth? Not available elsewhere?

Are they available to try or check out in Perth?
Don't think you can go wrong with any of these wings. Price probably biggest factor.
PPC outscored the ensis on the sub boarder review and surprisingly did way better than The A wing.
i am keen to get a bit more power and go out in slightly lighter winds than i do with my f one. But now that i think of it it will probably also mean i will be overpowered in stronger winds sooner too. here is their teaser video. Watching the review is highly recommended.
........

PPC did score higher in their Wave Riding ranking but that ranking does NOT include the amount of power a generates. It only scores things like depower and visibility. If you look at their power scores (power plus pumping), Ensis=17, PPC=15.
Also, in the Freeride/Blaster rankings, Ensis outscored PPC.
My thoughts....
Almost everything version 2 is pretty decent.
Grab something current and get your basics down and then go and experiment with other wings to figure out what you want.
