Loving my PPC wings so I am getting a PPC board to go with them. I am looking for advice on sizing. I am 90kg and my first/current board is a 100ltr SMIK. I am thinking that I should go smaller with the PPC board but how much volume should I step down to? Thinking the 83ltr. Thoughts?
Smaller boards are seemingly so much nicer to ride for winging. Much more feedback.
Once you go small there is no going back.
At your weight 75 to 80 litres is as small as you might want to go.
A really good video on another thread with the guy explaining his board choices for his weight of 80kg.
He prefers really low volume boards.
i'm also 90 kgs, started with 98L board (custom 4'11"). went to 75L board (F-One Rocket, 5'4"). i definitely prefer the smaller board, BUT, it can be difficult to get up in choppy conditions. the board is a semi-sinker for me, and it's critical that i have enough wind to get the wing over my head while on my knees. once there, all is good. i think the extra length also helps, but most importantly, the smaller board is much thinner. for me, that was the deciding factor because i felt the thicker, shorter, more volume board disconnected me from the foil. long story short...i wouldn't go lower than 75L.
I,m 93/94kg and 90l is my go to board.I have an 4.9x60l board but that is a fight (and the board is winning at the moment).
Yesterday I tried in normal 5m weather, 4 would be too small and 6 was still useable a KT5.4x 56l from a fellow winger. My 4.9x60l wouldnt be useable in that conditions and needing a lot more wind, but miraculously the extra length gave me soo much stability that it was perfect to sit on and relative easy to start. It learned me that volume is just a number and length at least as important.
So many mixed thoughts on board size , I'm also looking for my next board down and have see lots of comments of people riding small boards in light wind with no problem using the stink bug ,my current board is plus 7L to my kgs and is great for the lightest of winds. So probably go for around -10 L (short compacted shape).
Im 85Kg and I have a 33L and 50L. Most the time powered up and forced to use big wings. I could do with a 60L instead of the 50L but no way Id go any bigger.
With my 72 kg I love my 65 l board. No problems switching from 95 l but when wind drops to almost 0 the fun stops.
If you like just a bit of challenge up to 10 liters below your bodyweight could be your all conditions board.
Agree on -10L as an allrounder, any smaller and I reckon you are down the path of needing both a sinker and a floater.

Agreed!
Went down the small board path (you dont want to know how many boards.....) at 93 kgs to finally settle on a 58L board. However, I need 15 knots to get me up and going so needed a 75L board as well for the light wind days.
The stinkbug really is a game changer.
I also started with +10 L as my first board and although I am a bit lighter (72 kg) perhaps my board journey is useful. Have gone through a crazy amount of different sizes of boards, and for me the following 3 board setup makes the most sense at the moment. Not too interested in jumping and freestyle, so I tend to choose as small wing and as small foil I can get away with.
a) -10L (62 L for me) as a daily driver and the most versatile board to use in the waves as well.
That second video looks super light with a tiny handwing.?
2.6 m2 wing, using the same foil that Kai Lenny has here in this clip:
