I recently received a new quiver of Starboard / Airush Free wings and after being more than happy with the Versions 1 was in full anticipation that the V2 would be better again.
And for the most part, they were, particularly the 4 & 6 which I felt an affinity for straight away but the 5m, (which is normally my most used wing) it felt different & felt like the leading edge was getting sucked upwind creating a lot more backhand pressure which did not feel right so I was really disappointed for a couple of sessions.
I thought maybe it has just more bottom end and overpowers easier when the wind picks up? Well, yesterday it was ideal conditions to try to work it out, with the wind being 14 - 18kns or so.I thought what can I change, putting my front hand to the front handle/nope that didn't work / but when I put my backhand further back on the last handle all of a sudden, my leverage changed and the wing finally felt balanced.
It did feel weird for a while having my hands a bit further apart but after 3 or so tacks, I became used to it to the point,
I could start throwing around like I wanted to, and now I am stoked with my 5m as well. Still, I find it interesting how with the 4 + 6m I have my hands on the 2nd back handle from the back but with the 5m, it is balanced with my backhand being on the back handle,
Has anyone else had the same experience with different-sized wings and hand positions?
