Probably been discussed previously so apologies, just bought a couple of wings 5m and 6m but have tried wind foiling a few times but not wing yet. I only have 8ft normal ankle sup leashes. Is a waist coil leash the preferred option between body and board to lesson chance of leash wrapping around foil.
What size and brands are best and where to buy from.
Noticed that some people also attach wing leash to front of waist harness, but I would think this may be more of a hindrance than just having it around your wrist.
Thanks for any input.

Especially that you're from Vic support your local business and buy Balin.. They're just down the road in Rosebud and most shops sell them.. The belt buckle means there's no need to constantly Velcro and unVelcro each time to use it.. They are a high quality product.

Thanks is the balin waist belt buckle quick release in case you get tangled up around foil.

Could be.. but I'm guessing it's just for easy on/off without needing to adjust the Velcro each time.

I like to use a 5' straight leash on my board to Harness. I don't like the sound of the coil slapping off my board.

No board leash has been fine for me. Body drag board recovery made me nervous the first time but after doing it a few times it's not bad.

I use a reel leash with a 1.5m leader of spectra.

Used to use ankle leashes but think the splashing may have attracted sharks - I was attacked twice by a sizeable lemon shark. Switched to waist leash now.

Almost lost my board and foil this way. Was kiting on a minimal volume board mind you. The wind was blowing the board upwind and out to sea faster than I could body drag back to it. Foil floated the board on its edge so it caught the wind.

I use a 4ft webbing ankle leash, never gets tangled with the wing leash. No shark attacks as yet.

What happens when you get hit by a decent sized wave?

Just use one of these, cheap easy and if you ever stretch the coil out over time you can just but the coil section as a replacement.
The velcro is so easy to use with no hard buckles to scratch ir worry about. www.oneoceansportsaustralia.com/accessories/no-logo-waist-leash

Been using one for year's and only ever swapped a coil section over. They have 3 different attachment points so you can run more than one leash as well.

Ahhhhh, yeah, my foil doesn't float anymore (small front wing not enough volume) but that makes sense.

Moreton Bay, good size wind slop only so ankle leash works great. I use a ankle leash on my 10 ft sup in waves up the coast, no issue though I do use a urethane leash so it will stretch, but it is replaced every year due to the possibility of breakage.

Our wind chop on the bay gets up to 4-5 ft faces when I'm out on my 2.5mtr wing in 25 knots, quite adequate for good downwind swell riding. And we have a protected launch area so no battling through shore break or contending with sweep. It's a 1 minute drive from home, Sunny Coast is an hour away and when it's nuking you can't get out past the shore break up there.

Wind swell no matter how large doesn't have the power of actual breaking waves so ankle leash works just fine.

Same. Use a 5' FCS competition leash, super light and doesn't ever do a anaconda death grip around a foil or arm like a coiled leash can in a tumble in the surf.
