The belt hook is all you need.Great for sailing up wind.
+1 for plastic breadboard.Mine is going strong after 1 year.Cut with jigsaw or handsaw.
Inner curve of hook with fortsner drillbit.Slit where belt goes through with jigsaw or many drill holes and then dremel them together.
Many ways, plastic is easy, use slow speeds with power tools so it will not melt.
This dimensions work for me,tape is cm:

Ok Great Thanks I will definitely try that as I have a large white plastic cutting board lying around, so I can use just any belt? I have a new belt that is made for a leash which I can use I think:-)

I am using a diver belt.I modified the buckle to a velcro system because on those big DW splashes the water pushed the lever open.
If it has a secure but quick release it is good(i attach wing and board to belt).
Some EVA foam makes it more comfy.A coat of CEYS sealant to make it sticky so it does not turn around your waist.
Initially i made it so i could slide the hook sideways out of the way,but now it is fixed in place.
It folds flat when you need to paddle and this way it is always where you want it to.
This one works well but i would like the belt to slide out easier when releasing, metal plate and velcro bind a bit.
The knife is for overenthusiastic kiters and fishing nets.Sometimes they mark them with a tiny old water bottle as float and that's it.
And some spare cord,for whatever.
