Hi,
has anyone been able to gain experience with the Axis SP 860 on the wing ding? I love the "surfy" feeling of the Takuma Kujira 1210 and now I am looking for the wing of the Axis range that comes closest to it,
I was able to try the Axis HPS 1050 already and was very enthusiastic about the glide but missed the "surfy" feeling in the turns. The idea would be to take the HPS 1050 for days of lighter winds and flat water to small waves and the SP 860 for stronger winds and larger waves. Has anyone already been able to gain experience with the SP 860 or can perhaps even compare it with the Takuma Kujira 1210? Thank?s a lot!

I ride Axis now coming from Armstrong. No knowledge of Kujira. What the other riders here are using are the hps 830 or 880. Also the Art 899 or bsc 700.

These are all black series.

Try and demo.

Only ridden 899 once in 18 to 20 knots. I thought it would be higher wind. It really impressed me. 880 is another I am familiar with and it is a one foil solution. 830 I havent tried. Locals here who use it love it.

I am 76kg

Most used are 930 HPS and 810 BSC.

However, last 3 days in 20kn plus wind I used my kite foil wing the 740 BCS, which looks more like a HPS. The 740 is amazing simply put.

Rear wing is the 350 p for everything.

I also have the 1050 HPS for 10 kn ish days.

Hi Warwick,
Do you use the 810 BSC for winging in waves? Very interested to hear how it compares to your HPS.

Sorry for thread hijack...

I ride 890 for light winds, I'm 79kg, or when I want a slower stall speed. 880 for bigger waves, chop and 810 for high winds, big chop or big waves. I feel pretty well covered with those 3 wings. I use 390 gap for light winds, 400 progressive the rest of the time. Mike

Hi Mike,
that's interesting. Thanks for sharing! How would you describe the difference between the SP 860 and the HPS 880 in the behavior in the turn? Do they feel quite similar in the turns (spezially in "rail to rail" or better "wingtip to wingtip" turns)? Fore sure the HPS 880 is much faster and need more wind to get started.

Never ridden 860, but 890 is surfer for turning, 880 does a great turn but wider but also wants to breach less. I can get up on the 880 in same low wind as 890 just needs for pumping.

I am only 3 months into winging so take my input with a grain of salt. I use the 910 which is the smaller PNG wing. As my light wind wing with 4m Slik wing. I am only 70 kg. Also used my 860 which essentially is very similar (also in cm2). This one is slightly faster and has a slightly higher stall speed. Can still be pumped a fair bit I feel and comes up almost as early as the 910. I find them both actually pretty agile and can turn on a dime (with super short fuselage). Perhaps the 860 turns a bit tighter as intended. So on the wing so far I prefer the PNG 910, but happy with both. With a kite however, I don't like the 910 and enjoy the 860 a lot more. I guess as I am more experienced on the kite, I can tell the difference better. And the PNG feels a bit more draggy as it is not particularly made for pull from a kite, fast acceleration etc (rather a pump and glide type of riding more suited to prone or winging). Not sure if this helps at all. As HPS is yet another type compared to PNG.

I have used the SP 860 extensively on a sup and a decent amount on the wing. At 100kg it was my "good wave" wing. I have actually had some great waves on this wing. Really nice carving with the gull wing shape lets it turn tight and hard. Good for really surfing a wave as it lets you stay in the pocket a bit more and doesn't race you ahead. Speed is reasonable but at my weight not much glide and I could rarely connect waves on the sup. It didn't get as much use on the wing ding because I didn't get to wing it in proper waves very often. I felt it lacked a bit of glide for the usual wind swell bump surfing conditions I wing in.

I now use the HPS 980 as my go to for wing and sup. Even at a much wider span it's alot faster than the 860. At my weight the 980 has been the quiver killer. After riding the sleek low drag black series its hard to go back!
