Have been using the older Axis 1000HA front for the last couple of seasons. Now chasing a faster front wing with more glide for improved downwinders and wave riding. What should be the determining factors for sizer when choosing the 980 or 1050 HPS fronts?? (side note: I hit the scales at 100 kegs.)
Cheers for advice!
What is your most common wind strength for downwinders? I'm 90kg and find the 980 matches the bumps really well at 19 knots. I have only tried 1050 and 1099 in bay conditions. All 3 are good foils.
I'm 82kg and I ride the HPS 980 a lot. I've been considering the HPS 1050 or ART 1099 for lighter days or downwinders, so at your weight I'd look at those before I look at the 980... unless it's in high winds.
100 kg and I'm having a blast on my new 1050. It rides the waves well, cuts through the chop, and glides through gybes nicely. I need about a 15 mph gust to get me going but once up, she pumps and glides through the lulls.

I am 100kg (+ a little depending on beer vs foiling ratio
) the 980 is my all time favourite wing. It's as close to a 1 wing quiver as I have ever had. Good speed, good glide, good turning great top end for a heavy fella and respectable low end. I have had it out in everything from overhead bombie to small windswell. I can get going from about 15 knots on my 5'0" wingboard and 12 knots on my 6'1" sup with a 4.8m PPC.
I also sup foil it. I can pump and connect waves better on this than any other wing I've had.
I haven't tried the 1050 but I would consider getting one if I found one at a good price.
A question for the Seabreeze brains trust, would it be worth having the 980 and the 1050? I wouldn't change out the 980 and I won't get a 1099 as it would be too effected by seaweed (my 899 sucks when there's even a tiny bit of seaweed)
Cheers guys on the feedback. Will get the 1050..I think..or the 980 I think.all too hard. For what it sounds, I won't go wrong with either. Will also get a small HPS for the kite foiling days.
@100 lbs in 15-20 kts I'd go 1050 you'll get more use out of the 1050 as its so versatile for light or 25 kts, love my 980 to but for 100 kts need a bit more wind then the 1050.said it before say it again the 1050 is best big guy wing in axis stable at this time and space hands down for winging n waves from clean to unruly conditions
85kg I have the HPS1050 and used it in pretty much every condition and it's fast! But just bought the HPS 880 at a good price, to see what that is like in strong winds and bumpy conditions. This is where I feel the 1050 in its size come a bit too much to handle and I don't want another foil through the wing
.
I've been down the path of smaller and smaller wings which includes the above but 930 HPS.
Now ARTs 899 and 799 with advanced fuselage and amazed how easy they get up and foil.
However, if I was 100kg I'd go 1099 and 899 ARTs with 350p rear wing.
