Each has it's own qualities. Curious on others thoughts as to what positives and negatives others have found between the two models and when you choose one over the other.
Currently running the 980 HPS and have started looking at getting a 999 ART.
Started on the HPS (1050 and 930) series, went ART (1099 and tried the 999) and have done full circle and back on the HPS, since sold my ARTS.
At 95kgs the HPS 930 is my go to in anything from 15 knots above, 1050 for the lighter stuff.
For me the HPS turns better, speed is comparable, low end significantly better, glide is not that far behind the ART, a lot more user friendly in short sharp choppy conditions.
You will need a few more knots to get the 999 up and running compared to the HPS 980.
Me 75kg, HPS 930 is my training wheels/practice wing in light to medium wind.
ART 899 is my big wing followed by 799 ( most used) then 699 all with 300p stab and ultra short Advanced fuselage and HM 90cm mast.
No issues with stability or use in choppy water selecting the smaller sizes as wind increases.
The 930 HPS and 999 ART are my two main wings.
ART is definitely faster top speed, quicker accelleration, glides like nothing else, and has a suprisingly low stall speed. But takes quite a bit more speed to get the foil to engage, and needs short quick shallow pumps. With an ultrashort fuse and 325P tail I find it turns fine for wing surfing/wing downwinding.
Howevewr the HPS is my choice when the swell is really disorganised or messy. 930 is way better behaved than the 999 on those days. Turns better, I like the way it pumps better, and it feels more forgiving all around.
HPS 1050 for light days, 830 HPS for high wind, big swell days or when the swell is crazy ugly confused chop, ART999 for the moderately strong wind days when the chop is not crazy. I love all of my wings in their respective conditions. I'm 95kg, use an 82HM mast.
I really love all of them, the HPS is just so much fun, turns on a dime and is great, the 999 does not turn as well but it's just so fun on the swell with amazing glide but I do feel confused chop a little too much. I keep debating on getting a 799 ART but I'm just really happy with the 830HPS.

It's funny how things progress. I bought the 980 as my go to foil and with the expectation of having just one. Hearing other peoples stories, it seems most have a quiver of foils to suit conditions. I get the concept, was hoping to keep it to a minimum purely to keep the guessing game simple.

If I could only have one foil, the 980 makes a lot of sense. If you've got friends with the Axis set up, you should try other foils to get a feel for different conditions.

Try the 899 too! I used to like that one. Swapped brands to F one but still have Axis mast, advanced fuse and custom tail just so when a new line comes out I can try it.
Used the arts for a fair while. For wobbly water I really don't like them (but this is a common complaint). I'll use the HPS now most of the time as I do have rarely clean water conditions.....this is for all disciplines. But, saying that, I will use the art899 for winging if the wind is 25knots plus and waves are decent.....
I had HPS 880/830 snd BSC 890/810/740. They were all great 890 a super light wing wing, 880/830 fairly fast and reasonable glide, 810 waves and chop and best of all the BSC 740 faster than 830 and good low end, awesome carver for waves, I'm 82kg.
All great, but after 2yrs on axis I fancied a change and got the new unifoils.
