So I'm just about to bite the bullet and get the 1050 hps. I have been riding the old 1000 ha wing for a couple of seasons now and have really enjoyed it. I'm now chasing more speed.

Anyone done the same and gone from the 1000 to the 1050? Keen to hear what noticable differences you experienced.

Cheers

What's your weight ? flat water or waves ?

1050 will be quicker but it's not that fast compared to say ART or other brands HA wings.

I'm about 102kg. Riding waves - chest high and wind swell. I don't want the ART.

I think you could go smaller, maybe the 930 HPS. The 1050 is a forgiving very pumpable fast ish foil. The 1099 is the smaller less forgiving faster counterpart.

I am 95kg. I have the 1050 and an 880. Anything less than a good solid 20kts I use my 1050. But it is a foil that can be controlled when overpowered.I can compare it to the 900. To me it is a lot more controlled in pitch than the 900. Where 900 just wants to keep climbing when powered up and just blasting out of the back of waves the 1050 can be restrained easier without losing speed or turning ability.

@shi thouse I'm in a similar position. Had the 1000 HA for a couple of seasons and looking to upgrade.

I just demoed the HPS 930 and 830 the last 2 days as the 980 wasn't available. They were great, but the wind was nuking so it is hard to judge how they would go in light wind.

I'm 80 kg and mostly on flat or windswell.

The 830 was a lot of fun. So fast and turned so easily. I was originally going to get the 980 but now I might get the 880 instead and just use the 1000 HA for light wind until I can justify getting the 980 or 1050.

Anyone else care to comment?

I was on 880 and 1050 combo for a while to cover all wind ranges....

I had the 1000HA and it is a great foil. Then I bought into the marketing hype and got the 1050HPS, ART999, 980HPS, 880HPS. The 1050HPS is a step up from the 1000HA in speed and glide and lift. You'll love it. But the 1000HA is still a great foil.

I reckon if your looking for a one wing quiver go the 980. The 1050 is a big wing. I am about 105kg and the 980 is my daily driver, wing and sup. Such a great range on the 980, respectable low end/ stall speed, really good speed, turning and top end control especially for a big fella.
I haven't tried the 1050 but I feel like it would be too big for my daily driver. I have the 1010 as well but it doesn't get much use as the 980 usually has enough low end for what I need.

I've just ordered the 980 with the short fuse. Will give you an update post getting it on the water. I really like the 1000ha but find it slow. A comment I heard was the 1000 was like foiling with a plastic bag stuck to it, in comparison to the hps range.

Thanks all for your advice.

Nice one man, I hope you love it!

What tail are you going to be using with it? I have the 460 flat and 400 progressive but I just end up using the 400p for everything as its got some nice carving qualities. You definitely don't want to be using one of the original axis tails with your new 980. Those old tails are really draggy it would kinda ruin the new wing experience.

Cheers mate. I changed out my rear stab last year. I am on the 400 flat speed ha wing. Loving that stab, apart from when it goes through my wing like a hot knife through butter. It is amazing how much difference changing a rear stab makes to the performance of a foil.

we've got a 1050 and 930 and ultra short fuses. The 930 is faster but the 1050 keeps flying at very low speed, but not a huge difference between the two. I prefer the extra bit of speed so always using the 930. I can pump the 930 onto the foil (lotta pumping) in about 8 knots and 5.5m slick v1. I'm about 75kg and generally just sailing flat water
