Hi everyone. I'm looking to progress out of my beginner foil setup (axis bsc 1060). I'm thinking about switching to Armstrong and am looking for recs on which front wing to get. I was thinking either a 1550v2 or one of the larger HAs. I'm ~90kgs. Curious if people think going to an HA is too big a step as I know the opinions on them are ever-evolving. Know the new MAs are coming but probably am going to pull the trigger before they are available given I have a big trip coming up. Thanks!
The BSC-106 is a beginner/big guy foil.
Going to a HA or ART is a step too far.
HPS-980 is a better intermediate next step. Faster and more glide than the HS in my opinion. I used to own the HS.
Don't switch to HA foils yet, you need a good intermediate level. The Armstrong ones have a huge stall speed. At 90kg you'd want a stiff mast too.
Go down in BSC size and/or switch to HPS 980/1050.
At ~90kg i started on the Armstrong 2400 then dropped down to the 1550v2. I use that in all conditions at the moment from 10kn to 30/35kn with 4m/5m/6.5m wings. Have stayed away from the HA foils as they seem a little more difficult to use and i want more 'turn' from my foils. I'll probably add a 1000-1200 HS Armstrong foil when they come out for the stronger days. I'm guessing they won't change the 1550v2 when they come out with the other HS foils becasue the v2 is "new" compared to the other current HS foils.
And if you get Armstrong, probably start with the 232 tail. The 300 tail was good for learning but the 232 is the next one to go to.
Friends on Axis foils like them but as they go down the upgrade path it sounds like they need to switch out the mast/fuse. But it should be a one-time thing so i dont think there is any "magic" you'll miss out on if you decide to go with one brand or the other.
Also, check what board you'll be using or upgrading to... some boards like certain foil brands more than others. I think Axis goes further back in the tracks relative to Armstrong.

I've just switched from GoFoil to Armstrong and I love it! I'm winging the HS1550v2 with both the 232 and 195 tails, both with 1.5? Shim.
I'm only just learning winging and I'm 68kg but the 1550v2 seems to have a good speed range and doesn't want to launch me out the water when its powered up. Its so smooth!
I've got the HA1125 and HA1325 for downwind paddling but prefer the HS for winging at this stage.
I am 95 kg and happy with the HS 1850! it has a huge range and a good start AR 4.8. For high wind am I thinking about the upcoming HS V2 in smaller sizes around 1250 or the HA 925. Armstrong is a good choice!
HA925 for 95 kg big enough at 18kn. and above?
I'm 90 kgs + at least another 5kgs in rubber and the 925 is very happy in 18 knots plus. Less, even, if you're efficient. My favourite foil so far unless swell and wind are strong enough to warrant the 725.
Never used Axis so can't comment but to answer the OP's question on what Armstrong Foil and assuming it's going to be a one foil quiver then the HS1550v2 with 232 stab would be a good choice IMHO.
I am 93kg naked and use the HS1850 and HS1250 to cover 8kts to 30kts using 85cm A+ mast and 60cm fuse. I have often thought when trying to decide which foil to rig up that the 1550 would probably cover over 80% of the winging I do.
