Went to our local surf shop to buy a 195 tail to go with my HA 1125 front wing. The guy at the shop told me that a chopped 232 works just as well or better than the 195. Has anyone ever tried this? I couldn't find any information on this.
Nah, very different characteristics HA195 is lower drag, pumps well and is faster. Chopped 232 is slower (bigger profile & chord) but turns tighter - makes the 195 feel stiff. I have both and use 195 with every front foil these days - ride swells but not carving hard in the pocket - would probably use V200 for that
I know a couple people who prefer the 232 (unchopped) with the 925 for stability. Both are high caliber foilers.
