Hi
Just broke the leash attachment part on my board. It made a nasty hole, and I dont think putting it (the leash
attachment part) back in the repair would be enough to prevent another (bigger) tear in the board so i just repaired the hole in the board without the leash thing.
So now w i'll be parawinging without a leash.
Do some of you do that ? Wingfoiling its easy to bodydrag, in parawinging I'm not sure esp since i ride a very big foil (1100cm2)
Interested in Your Feeedbacks
Thanks
I broke my leash once on a DW run. Every time a wave lifted the back of the board it foiled itself down the wave and away from me. No way I was ever going to catch it!! I was with a mate who had to chase it down and hold on to it all until I could drag down to him. No way I would go without a leash now. The footstrap attachment is better than no leash.
What type of leash were you using when the board failed?
I have seen a simple dyneema bungee leash rip the whole tail off a board in a high speed crash.
Those dyneema leashes are bad news for leash plugs in a big crash or waves, ripped mine out when I hit a turtle and got catapulted. They don’t have enough give compared to a urethane leash.

Yeah it was dyneema, i used to have a normal leash but it kept being tangled in the lines of the PW. but i'll switch it back fs because I'm not too confident about that back strap leash thing i made, Or i'll try to make something that snaps and releases a but more line before breaking the board
Thanks for the infos
Lots of ways to improvise the leash cover. This is what I use:
These stop line tangles with the coil.

If you are in any solid swell you could 95% guarantee you lose your board. It is far better at foiling with you off it than on it. If you are packing away the PW, then you don't have any means to catch up with it quickly when you get launched. If you're in smaller swell and a relatively constrained location then definitely a maybe, but it also seems like a dick thing to have a high speed knife heading to the beach without any control of it.
Leash tangling is one of those problems that seems to pretty much disappear once you've got a bit of time parawinging, I have not had a leash tangle for this whole season.
I have dabbled with no leash parawinging. I went back to using a leash. My thoughts are that using a big floaty fast board with a bigger foil can fly away from me after a crash with wing in water anchoring me in place. Also, I am not sure that I could relaunch a PW from swimming with no board. I forgot my leash the other day and went out and just stayed close to shore. But that's no fun. Like CH3MTR4IL5 said, Those leash problems go away pretty quickly. Another thing is that I wear my Kaohi coil leash on my ankle as opposed to calf and it stays out of the way.
I almost never wear a board leash, but I usually ride in protected waters in small bays and lakes. I do wear a leash in the ocean. When we have crazy windy conditions at the lakes, it can blow 50mph+. I often don't wear a leash there either, but I've had a few instances of chasing the board down, so when it's crazy windy like that, I've started wearing one now.
Bring it in for a proper plug install. You'll regret no leash when it keeps foiling for 100m without u

For attaching leashes to boards, I've got a loop of dyneema/spectra that is looped onto the board plug. Coupled next to that is a shorter piece of bungy cord. The idea being that if you have a big crash and the leash gets pulled tight, the initial force gets taken up with the bungy cord before the dyneema comes into play. There is a little more give in the system to spread the load and not reef the plug out.
My second session was inshore but it was cranking wind against full flood run out tide , didn't wear a leggie to reduce tangle risk and as I normally only ride really small foils so they don't travel much BUT I had on a monster Axis foil . First fall the board took off downwind self pumping and I was get sucked the opposite direction with the tide. If it wasn't for 20 years of waterpolo under my belt that board was gone, I had to ditch the Para and swim like hell . Got to the board and paddled to the Para before it sunk . Hopped on the board and reset , did exactly the same thing again next attempt
Needless to say came in and put on a brand new coiled leggie which got immediately caught in the lines
Got to love the Para. I've overcome this now by using and older coiled leggie which is a bit stretched and the lines don't hook on it , works perfect. ![]()

A reversed hybrid leash works well, coil by the board and dyneema at the calf
