I had a partial knee replacement in December (very successful), and while doing PT for it I developed a "Sports Hernia", technically Athletic Pubalgia. It's a tear or serious strain in the tendons or muscles in the groin area. My knee doc warned me this AP can be troublesome and linger on. He was right. Painful in most full body movements, especially in and out of vehicles or bed; or when sneezing and coughing. Slightly below the better-known inguinal hernia.
I had hoped to be back on my wingfoil gear by April, but now it ain't gonna happen. Studies show that surgery is much more effective than conservative treatment.
Has anyone here dealt with this? It really sucks. The good news is that with a good surgeon and a mesh repair I might get back on the water within a couple of months. Thanks for any relaying any personal experience.
No experience with it, but I would be hesitant to share such medical info online. You never knows who,s reading it, or searching it in time.
Ensurance company,s, future job aplications?
I got once the question at a job ablication that a quick online search to get to know me better showed that I was surfing a lot and posting online frequently and how I was thinking to combine that with working at there place, and how I was thinking to be fit for the job because I posted once I had a medical issue.....
A company like that is not where I wanna work but it was a good realitycheck about online sharing stuff.
Dunno how much of a help but
Old relative had inguinal hernia op. Sedentary lifestyle.
Zero rehab, just took it easy. No physio / exercises.
Back to same condition as he was pre-op, in about 3mths.
So you will be fine!!!
Get a physio who knows what you do - many think winging, windsurfing, kitesurfing looks like the doing 5kn on a log on a lake in the pics from 1980. Tell them you're on the surfing pro tour maybe.
I developed a sports hernia about a year after having inguinal herniaI surgery on both sides. In hindsight it was my own fault. As part of my exercise regimen I was hanging from a bar. I wasn't even thinking about the scar tissue being less elastic. As a result I put too much pressure on that part of my stomach and caused the sports hernia. For it to mostly go away it took about 9 months. Although I was able to wing and do most things. I just avoided movement that caused it to hurt excessively. It would give me a strong burning sensation when I was overusing it . It sounds like yours hurts more than mine did. Although I tend to have an excessively high pain threshold which is why I tend to get hurt more often than I would like.
