The 75 has been out for a while and is what I ride every day. You sacrifice a slice of stiffness vs the 80cm UHM for a variety of other performance benefits. Worth it to me, I feel a touch of bobble on tip breaches and in whitewater with it vs the 80cm uhm but not enough for me to not ride it.

At 12.8mm thick it's the fastest of the AFS mast options I've tried and one of the thinnest masts on the market.

The 100mm chord is also one of, if not the shortest chords on the market and offers excellent performance benefits for wider span foils. The Silk 1050 is an absolute gem on this mast and I will only ride the Ultra 750 on this mast. The short chord offers a significant upgrade to the roll aspect on the wingspans over 900mm. When you get down towards the smaller foil spans, think Silk 850, 650, Enduro 700 the skinny mast doesn't have as big of an impact because the roll is already well activated on smaller spans. There's also an argument for less drag on shorter chords which I am sure is true to an extent. However, after compiling a few thousand miles of data comparing various AFS mast options I found smaller gains in speed and glide with the short chord and really think the biggest benefits are in the maneuverability category, which is undeniable.

I was really hoping for an 80cm skinny, but I might break down and order the 85cm since it seems like 80cm might not be in the cards.

So if I have a UHM 75, thats the same as the skinny? Looks like there isn't a 75 UHM anymore (although thats what I thought I bought about 9 mos ago).

Wonder how stiffness compares between 85 UHM and 85 Skinny. Never felt like the 85 UHM was particularly flexy or draggy and I'm happy with it, but I wouldn't want anything less stiff.

The 85 UHM jumps in price a lot.

Correct, I think the current uhm 75 just got shifted over.

The 85 uhm price: I reached out to AFS last year asking about the 80cm skinny and they said they were looking into longer skinnies but that they wanted to make them stiffer, which would force a price increase. So, purely on assumption here, the 85cm skinny is probably the upgraded layup which is what pushed it to the top of the price pile for their masts. I don't typically like 85cm masts, but an 85cm skinny could change my opinion if that helps speed it up rail to rail.

AFS is super responsive to questions so it would be an easy email to ask them about the 85cm skinny stiffness vs the 85cm uhm.

I reached out to them for additional clarification. Looks like the 75cm skinny is the same dims as the old 75cm skinny with a small increase in stiffness. 80cm UHM is still the gold standard if stiffness is the #1 thing on your mind but these new skinnies are really stiff too.

I imported a OneOcean watersports carbon mast from Oz. I got it as I felt my Code foils mast felt a little draggy after my F one UHM.

It's super stiff 12.5 thick, 10.8cm chord super glidey and you can get all sorts of adapters for it from Slingy.

I've got a code one and will get an F one and AFS adapter too.

Check them out.

Would you mind sharing a pic of it with the AFS adapter on it? That does look like a nice mast, just wondering how clean the AFS adapter goes onto it. Scratch that, it sounds like you don't have it yet unless I am mistaken!

Does the base on the OneOcean have a rubber, vibration-dampening pad (like Axis)? Any recent thoughts on its performance?

No rubber plate, I don't like them as I want it direct as possible. The mast a few months in is great, stiff, fast, glide and been great with my Code 980/720

I have all the AFS masts, and agree with Bryan, the skinny masts are awesome for maneuverability and add a bit more glide (and presumably speed).

The 75 is the same, just changed name to be in the skinny line. I believe the construction of the 85 skinny (and probably 75) is different to standard UHM in that it is full carbon rather than having a core of some kind, and is more expensive for that reason.

AFS don't recommend using skinny masts with the Ultra foil (not just due to span, but something about tips not being swept back), but it seems some people find it fine.

I find the 85 skinny to have a bit of hesitation / feels uneasy when pushing hard on the 1050 + ultra, a tiny bit on the 850 and is a dream on the 650. It's mainly notable on flat water when I can turn the foils as hard as possible, but is fine in waves & down winding where I can't rip quite that much. The difference in turning and glide is definitely noticeable (more so than the 75, where I'm not sure how much is just due to riding a shorter mast than usual).
