About to change over to the Axis foils from SS. For those who use Axis foils, what length fuselage are you using? Was considering the black short fuse to use with the HSP 1050.
Thoughts?
What size stabilizer would you recommend? Too many choices but want something stable that can turn.
Thanks in advance.
Hi I currently use the ultrashort fuse which really isn't all that short. Important to note that the axis "standard" fuse is 765mm which is quite long. If you buy an Armstrong the standard kit comes with a 600mm fuse so the axis standard at 765mm is quite long. The ultrashort fuse at 625mm is a nice length. Don't want it too short as it could be unstable and lose pumpability, dont want it too long as you lose maneuverability.
For back wings definitely get a 460, 420 (or I think they make a 380 now?) The high aspect low drag tails are the go. I love the 460 adds a lot of glide and lift with very little drag. At 460mm its still quite a big tail wing so easy enough to ride but it's very sleek and fast. Tried it back to back with a 400mm and the 400 felt very draggy in comparison. I recently got the 420 and its a similar feel with a bit more traction. I haven't used it much yet so can't say which is better. Can't go wrong with either and if you get one of the older design fatter tails you will soon upgrade to the super sleek tails so might as well just go straight to the goods.
Using the Axis red short fuse, BSC 1060 and rear stab 370. Love the set up, playful, fun, easy to get on foil and lively once up. My next move is to go with the Axis BSC 890 and go with the black fuse set up as the fall is coming and that means bigger swell and bigger winds.
I really love the set up, switched over from Slingshot and couldn't be happier.
I think those number are meaningless between companies. The AXIS ultrashort 63.5 is significantly shorty than the 60 armstrong if you mesure from back of the mast to end of the stab for example...or even from leading edge of the front wing to the trailing edge of the stab. Not that one is better than the other.
It depends how you ride.
I really like riding the short fuse, and feel that it is the sweet spot.
Crazy short is nice also, however it's a bit more twitchy at high speed. (More relevant for a smaller HPS foil)
Either will work for you.
I reckon you can't go far wrong with a short fuse and 420 .. Really predictable and connected and turns better than I'm able to turn(!) ![]()

Yeah I agree with all that and saw the new 380 today for the first time , I'd definetly add that to the kit so 380 , 420 & 460 , it really is such a luxury to have so many stock wings to pick from.
I'm loving the Black Series Short fuse /380 rear combo with the 1050 or 980 v1.
I was using the 460 which was also good and then went to the 380, I think the 420 would be great too but haven't tried it.
I was a bit unsure about the 380 at first (mainly when surfing as it doesn't pump as well as the 460 for linking waves) but it turns unreal and the more I use it the more I like it.

Yeah, I have the 460 also, which feels like a pig compared to the 380. It locks in the roll too much. I am going to chop it to 420 and see if I can save $241. The 380 has really caused a lot of problems for me, because it made me hate all other stabs. If you really want to loosen up those turns, you will need an 890. Just sayin.... The 890 has also caused problems. It makes me not want to fly any HPS wings.
That's interesting. I prefer a lot more the 370 over the 380 in tight turns and surfy feels. The 380 if i push it hard in turns it kind'a want to breach. It glides a lot more and it's more lively, if i could just figure out the sharp carves.

I hear ya.
Like you I love the speed of the 380 and all the others just feel draggy, I do use the 390 or 460 occasionally with the 1150 as it is slow anyway but for anything else it's 380.
The 890 is causing me problems already.
I love the speed and glide of the HPS wings because I do a lot of downwinding so I was considering a HPS 880 because I wanted something faster and looser but then the 890 sounds so much better for for SUP or prone foiling.
I already have too many foils so can't get both.

Dude, the 880 is an incredible surf/sup wing.

agreed 100% .. If i had to have 1 foil wing for everything (winging / surfing / downwinding) then 880 / 420 for sure..

I have the 1050 (as well as the 980v1) and both the short and ultra-short fuses. I have just the 420 stabiliser which i ride without the shim.
I'm finding that I am generally preferring the short over the ulta-short for winging - maybe I prefer the additional pitch stability over the slightly easier turning - the short still turns easily enough - but it also somehow seems to be a smoother, more balanced ride.
I definitely preferred the lower drag without the shim. I haven't tried the shim with the ultra-short - that might be a good combination.
From what I'm hearing I'm expecting my next rear wing might be the 380, still keeping the short mast. That might be the ultimate combination, with lower drag, slighty looser, but still stable enough.
Yeah, definitely too many choices. I'm intrigued by the BSC 890 but haven't had a chance to try this series. I'm thinking my next front wing will probably be the 830, which will complement what I have already.
Thanks for the replies folks, based on consensus, alot of research and talking to shop guys, I have purchased the HPS 1050, 420 stabilser on the short fuse. Maiden voyage tomorrow!!

I'm sure you will love that combo.

Great choice, you'll find that a very versatile, user friendly setup.
Get the HPS880, I'm on 930 because we get SUPER small/weak surf quite regularly here and I foil as much as humanly possible but as soon as you are up and riding these HPS wings are incredible and even though the take-off speed is high the stall speed is actually quite low so you hardly need any power once you are up.
