The 2023 AWSI show just wrapped up, it was an awesome gathering and we enjoyed good wind conditions before and after the show.
We have lots of great footage and interviews to edit and post over the next couple of weeks, starting with this footage of Johnny Heineken ripping it up at the Hatchery:
Is Johnny wearing a leash? Whenever I try (and fail) to do some of those moves I end up with a leash either around my neck or an arm pinned to my body..????
Have any right of way safety rules at that place ? Or is it " don't foil near me cos' i'm not gonna look to avoid you when i jibe etc that's for chickens ! " Get out of my *****ing way ! It seems .
What is the move at 1:50? Tack into a wave then wing flip? How difficult is this?
His riding is really unique and aggressive

A radically performed upwind carving 360 I would say

this looked like a pretty light wind day for the Hatch... lots of open space. I windsurfed and winged there last week during the show (and down by the event site) and a lot wingers don't look before turning. I ride pretty defensively and I can usually tell when someone is preparing to tack or flag out. It's amazing how few people look before they turn.
Mr. Heineken is used to sailing in a crowded area... he did get in a collision w/ a guy I know on the start line for a course race but not sure who was at fault... it was a matter of inches. I don't worry about his hitting or turning into me, but I can't say the same of others.
Looks like Johnny is riding an Aluula version of the Ozone Flux. They were also testing an early proto of a double skin Flux.
Ozone is starting to up their game. With their new great wing boards (made by apple tree) all they need now is some decent foils.

Can you share any details on these boards? First I've heard of it.
Thanks for the comments, here is a video of Kane DeWilde at the same spot, showing off his downwind foil skills:
Long board swing weight isn't holding him back one bit. Amazing how steep he can point his nose on the top turn. With those angles, I have to imagine he's throwing the foil out of the water all over the place, but he seems totally unfazed. Generating a lot of speed.
You captured two of the guys pushing foil sports forward here. Well done!
Hey Robert, when is "your board" showing up in the store, and how much? That thing looks sweet!
The 5'8 x 21 x 90L Wing Racer board will be available as a production model late this year
