Had a fun little demo on the new Coaster from Sunova this week. The shop told me it will be their new parawing board. With strap inserts you can surely wing it too.
The new shape is a little more of a snub/torpedo nose and feels like it holds a little more volume up front.
New grey deck pad from Sunova looks like a response to the online complaints about the old white pad that was so hard to remove and change. This one looks like it has no additional adhesive added to the edges so you can change it easier if desired.
4.7kg for this stock 5'6" x 20.5" x 4-9/16" 70l model. If you ordered a custom without the inserts you'd be getting down towards 4.2kg which is pretty light for a stock board.
Seems like it will offer a good alternative to the Carver for folks who want some alternate dims and sizes.
Looks great. Is the deck flat or does it have a nice bit of concave? Do you know if they will keep the 20.5 width for all sizes or do the bigger sizes get wider?
Good to see they have changed the boxes, the old boxes they used are so annoying, only allowing you to use part of the box.
There's a nice bit of concave but it doesn't feel quite as exciting as the concave does on my Pilot. It feels extremely flat underfoot and I'm guessing that might be due to the fact that I have been riding 20" or narrower for years now and going to 20.5" probably disconnected my feet from the concavity that you feel on the edges on my boards.
Good catch, I did forget to mention the box changed but since I've never been affected by the middle opening it slipped my mind.
8 sizes in 3" length and .25" width increments and about +8l per size ranging from:
5'x20"x4" 55l
all the way up to
6'8"x21.75"x5-9/16" 111l (just a +2" increment over the 6'6")
Dealer didn't know the MSRP yet haha!?
Did one more session on it today, this time with a wing. Just a nice all around board. Very user friendly for a wide range of riders. I still prefer the Pilot for performance and will continue to get all my Sunovas custom made but the Coaster is a nice addition to the lineup.
How do you find the sunova durability? I've got a few small cracks on both side of mine and noticed similar on another local rider's board.
I get mine built in vapor construction and haven't had any issues. Which models cracked and how do you transport them? Presumably in a board bag and inside the vehicle?

I have always found them to be good solid boards. I have had plenty of sunovas over the years, surf sups, foil sups and wing boards. Always quite tough and durable. A bit less prone to paint chipping than some others. Quite rare to get a ding that actually breaks the surface.
The worst issue I had was with the deck pad on my carver. It was a scuffed up and scrappy within a few months of use but not a major issue.

It's great! Super light, rides well and has perfect connection with the fd. The deck pad is a mofo though, absolutely tears you up.

your dims look pretty close to what I'm after for SUP foil. You order direct from Sunova?
Its based on the Coaster template, however you can pretty much choose whatever you want if you go custom.
I dealt directly with Dylan at Sunova with my board getting shipped to a local retailer near me.
Hit the chat button on the Sunova website and you should get through directly to Dylan. Service is top notch and very easy to deal with as you fine tune your custom order.

Volume: 74l
BARG Factor: 4.02 (I learned on 4.59 and now ride 3.2. That's as low as I'll go. His wing board is currently 3.1)
He's a winger but he will be learning to parawing next year.
looking at those Coaster stock dims + pics, aside from the more subtle design mods of coupla years R&D, seems the biggest difference between the Coaster and the Carver is how the bottom angles up from the back of the box, a la Dart, Super K2, Pilot Mid, Armie Midlength etc, vs the flat-all-the-way-thru tail of the Coaster.
Not about to replace my Carver with a Coaster, but interesting to test em back to back. See if the tail and other mods significantly impact how early it takes off

I don't think the Coaster is a reason for anyone to ditch their Carver. IMO The Carver is still king of flowy riding and ridiculous durability. The Coaster is going to be a little more accessible for people trying to transition down to narrower boards since it has a bit more width to it.
Takeoff difference is going to be negligible. I feel like the Carver does well when pushed by swell up onto foil and the dims bode well for takeoffs. Coaster should pump onto foil better (the Pilot is great for this) but the added width slows it a touch so it's kind of a trade off.
Likely the biggest difference you would notice going from one to the other is the deck shape. Carver with the narrower concavity resulting in the "king of flow" title I give it and the Coaster with a wider concavity that will gift you with a bit more responsiveness.
New skinny pilot ships Thursday. Fingers crossed we get some wind to test it soon.

* correction, the CARVER bottom's flat all the way thru the tail, the COASTER's is angled up from the boxes back. Sunova need to vary their name a bit more

I'm aiming for something around 85L, 6'5 x 20.5, as thin as possible and without strap inserts. Be interesting to see what weight that brings it down to.
Do they still offer the 2 types of construction (a feather rings a bell) and if so how much of a difference does that tend to make vs standard?

I think 5 types of construction:
Vapor is what I get (the feather icon).
Standard is the fist icon.
Bulletproof is a bullet icon, I've never seen one.
I think there is also a "team" and one other...
I think I shave about .5lbs off my board weight with vapor.

My Custom took a while but is finally here. 6.4 x 20 x 4 7/8 = 85 litre, weighs in at 5.1 kg in the standard construction without inserts.
Happy with the result -still to get on the water.
Can't wait to hear how it goes at those dims! Did it show up in an Armstrong box!?!?!?
