Hi all
So in the middle of a major kit reshuffle after using the same gear for the best part of a decade! I’m fairly lightweight, 68kgs and wondering about recommendations for sail size quiver for Perth and WA sailing. Pretty tempted by the Blades, but wondering what sail size increments would be worthwhile, trying to cut down on kit but also not sure what the wind range of these sails are like coming from a vintage set of Ezzy waves. Currently have a 75 simmer quantum and toying with getting say a 90l fws type board for light wind days. I have 400 and 430 skinny masts. Was thinking maybe 4.2, 4.7 and 5.3? If I do get a larger board have a Hot Sails 6.2 that rigs on a 430.... Thoughts?

g'day smp

I run 4.2/4.7/5.3 and 65L and 70L boards and find that perfect for me at 73kg, living and sailing near gero. you may want bigger sail sizes for perth, although with less weight maybe you'd get away with those sizes? others in perth would be able to answer that better.

check the luff lengths of which ever sails you look at though if you do go down the 4.2/4.7/5.3 route. I use a 370 mast for my 4.2 and 4.7 and use a 400 mast for the 5.3m, depends on the brand/model though.

you may also want to check the mast/sail type, e.g. flex/constant/hard top depending on how particular you are on matching that up. I'm happy with my simmer wave sails on ezzy masts, they rig really nicely, but they are similar bend curves and I'm not that fussy about that side of things.

IMHO for Perth waves you want 3.7 to 5.7 for your weight. I say that as I use 4.2 in winter in Perth and I am 100kg.
If so you need to change mast lengths probably

Increments get smaller at the bottom end (as it is a percentage thing) so you could do 3.7 4.0 4.5 5.0 5.7 (latter for the 90L FSW and get out a LOT
Or if the sail is very rangey, 3.7, 4.2, 5.0, 5.7 ish

There seem to be a few for sale at the end of the season around April when I put mine up for sale. At 86 kg I use Blades 4.2 5.0 5.3 5.7 I could get away without the 5.3 due to the great wind range but its such a sweet sail size for me in Perth my most used sail. 5.0 is my favourite but for my weight its just a bit small for most day's.

64kgs and mostly on a s1 4.3 or blade 4.7 (dutch) though I have a 3.7 and 5.3 (river) on a 66 or 80 board. Love it on 4.3 66L on a good day:)
