G'day guys. I spend a bit of time in Walpole(have holiday house there), so i thought i would give people an idea where Regs Speed Challenge in March will be held.
The Seabreeze down there is a SE’er. I have marked a line on the photo for the best spot to hold the speed challenge.
The best place to stay will be the Coalmine Beach Caravan Park as its right on Coalmine Beach.
You will be able to rig up and just walk to the waters edge form you site as the caravan park is on the beach.
Let me know if there other questions you guys have.
Cheers Bender
Hey bender
Are there any areas that need to be avoided on a low tide? There's lots of shallows in the inlet but how shallow?
Bender, whats the schedule for the weekend?, like whats doing Friday 6th, Sat 7th and Sunday 8th.
Or is Reg the man with the schedule![]()
wind in march..i dunno.. getting dodgy down there. easter is the stillest time of the year at walpole. - theres certainly wind in december jan.. belting SSE.
southerlys involve a little bit of swimming to get out far enough in front of the knoll.
The line marked is most probably the start line, heading west towards Newdegate (Snake) island..
there a lots of shallow spots and rocks in that section where the line is - gotta be careful at speed even with a wave fin. - but deep all the way across the inlet .. in front of the Knolls out to about 20m from the edges are dodgy, but theres brutal windshadow there as well. and over near the island there are some serious rock ledges that stick right out of the water.
in winter its hard cos the water is super fresh and freeekin cold so you sink.
If anyone wants to get technical and check current/salinities etc give me a bell. did my eng. thesis on the hydrodynamics of the place..- we've got a place down there too.
with a decent crew and 4wds and maybe a jetski there is some serious potential for epic wavesailing out at belanger beach too - wind direction depending. good range of smaller but superlong waverides and huge stonking boomers. Ive not had the company to get out there much though. - peaceful bay is nearby and much easier to sail. speed runs up and down the river mouth there are fantastic.. SUPER flat and pretty much always windy.
my general runs across nornalup inlet. - red demarkates walking across sandbanks.
Transect from Walpole inlet to the mouth of the Nornalup inlet (ocean)
mid april, kinda flat - example of stikyoutythings - some are semisubmerged, but see baty map
ROB101 Your saying river mouth, being between, Knoll drive on East side and Rest Point road on West side? (Google map) yes?
