Gidday all,

I have been approached by a Perth northern suburbs high school, a group of thier students are planning on building and sailing landyachts.

They are going to need a bunch of old windsurfing masts, booms and sails, any donations of these- regardless of condition will be appreciated- even the old broken and damaged stuff you have stashed behind your shed is going to help!!

If you would like to help these kids- sling me a P.M. and I will pass on the message- or I can help arrange pick up/ drop off for both parties.

All the best,

Stephen.

strange you should need booms, you're not going to build a land yacht like anything I've seen?
Anyway good luck with the project, sorry I can't help, "landyacht" got all my spare stuff a few years ago.

The landyachts will be standard Lake Lefroy Mini's- but to start with they plan on using standard, unmodified windsurfing sails and booms.

Once you recut the sails and switch to regular single booms instead of wishbones- you gain a lot of "top end" performance- but at the expense of low down grunt.
The kids will be starting thier sailing on grass ovals (high drag surfaces) so the standard sails and booms are the way to go.

With a bit of experience- and once we find them a few more local venues they can easily upgrade sails and booms later on.

when it comes to scrounging- its pretty hard to beat the guru (Landyacht/ Paul)

there is a recycling depot in mirrabooka?

if you mean Balcatta, yep- there is quite a few booms in the pile but most are pretty beaten up or the aluminium is corroded.

nothing there is free, and since the place was featured on a telly special about places to find cheap treasure- the prices have gone up!

Oups !!!! yes Balcatta!!!! I scored a 3 boards bags in very good condition (sun discolored) for $ 10-00 not free but good bargain!
Also 6 original vintage Napoleon cognac balloon glasses with gold leaf marking for $3-00 that was a steal, they would probabely sell for at least $ 50-00 it is just a matter of luck as the tomboy as no ideas about the value of things!
