thinking of doing the leedge to lancelin this year, I seem to remember reading about safety equipment needed but cant find anything on the ocean classic website. Anyone know what you need to provide?

You need a personal flotation device (life jacket) that's certified level 2 or higher.

You also need two orange smoke flares, and it's a good idea to get a sail number (join windsurfing WA if you haven't already).

It's an awesome event, and it doesn't stop when the race finishes

Is joining windsurfing WA mandatory (for insurance or sail numbers etc)?

yes mate you need to be a member of WWA to enter and get a sail number. Go to the WWA website and follw the links its all there.

Becoming a member of WWA is a way of supporting our tiny sport we all love.

Hi Everyone,

To confirm you do not need to be a member of Windsurfing WA to enter the Lancelin Ocean Classic however as Bender said it is a great way of supporting the sport.

Looks like a great event as always and I look forward to seeing everyone at the event from the 8th-11th of Jan.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

You can put any number you want on your sail. You do not need membership. There is an Australian register for numbers where you can reserve a particular number for a fee.

When you get to an event, if your unregistered number has already has already been used on someone elses sail who has entered the race, you will need to change your number (just adding a 1 will do it).

If someone with a registered number rocks up, that person gets to use that number. (anyone with copies will need to adjust their particular number).

Your number should be easy to read, at least 230mm high, 30mm line thickness. One set of numbers on the starboard side should be ok, around middle of the area between mast tip and boom.

If you can't see your number from both sides, put the number on a white opaque backround and place back to back on both sides of the sail.
