Looking to purchase one of these, are these the best ones around for attaching to a windsurfer?

Are there other brands?

I know a chap on here has one and I was quite impressed with the photos. Do you know if you can upgrade the camera in a couple of years time with a new one and keep the casing or is it one whole package?

Standard or HD camera? not sure

any advice would be helpful as this will be a big investment!

Hi,
Wait for the HD!!
Its only weeks away.

The great thing about the go pro is there's heaps of mounts and brackets.
Take a look @ vimeo.com/user2144132/videos to see some of the angles we are working on.

cheers.
Mick

^^^^ What he said! They are the best for above and below, great mounts - almost bomb proof 60m housings. PM me if you want heaps of Websites etc for research and other camera comparisons. The HD comes out in AUS hopeful Nov 09 / Dec 09 for us. US will hopefully have them end of this month! Be patient, worth the wait.

thanks guys for your replies.

Is there any difference between the actual camera itself, for the surf, motor sport ect ect models? or is it just the casing. will I loose out on one aspect if I go for one of them and not the other? cheers

Rich I think you'll find the cameras and housings are the same for the Range, eg the HD camera and housing is the same for biking / watersports etc only the mountings and bases for mounting the cameras are different. AKA the helmet mounting system is different to the chest harness system. But the same housing and camera is involved. There is a difference in the gopro surf non HD camera and housing. It is still not clear if they are interchangeable, aka if you have an old housing will the new HD fit into it and function. Have a look at those links I sent you on Gopro and you will see all the specs for the different ranges and thier applications and video's of them being used and video's taken by them.

I guess answering your question - if you change sports from windsailing to say bike riding, you would just need a new purpose chosen mounting, the camera and casing involved are the same. Windsurfing / kiting /surfing have a board mount option or a helmet option or chest mount ; bikes have a handle bar mount or chest mount or helmet option for example. You may just like to use a helmet mount / or chest mount for both sports to save money - It's a choice of filming perspective and what you want to portray in your videos and editing. Have a look on You tube and you will get a better understanding of what styles appeal to you. Send me some links of what appeals to you and I will help you with ideas on mountings that would help you achieve that style. Hope this helps!

Thats great - exactly what I wanted to hear. I will wait until the HD model comes out, and look at buying a helmet mount and a clamp mount for the windsurfing boom. Those links were helpful, but at this stage it only seems that gopro have the best one for this kind of use. Its a shame there isn't companies like cannon ect who make models like this with a housing because that would bring different technology and ideas and also a bit of competition in the market. but I think I will be satisfied with gopro
