Probably you can find answers to most your questions by googling!
where to say? Best book into a backpackers for first few days
transfer? good luck getting the shuttle bus to take kit, but I think it might be possible as they have a trailer (it goes to freo or city, and quite flexible)
wave board? Look on seabreeze, I have a 67 cheap if your interested
how long are you staying for? generally would recommend buying a van otherwise you will be stuck in perth, plus its probably cheaper than paying backpackers as you can free camp on the road
I found that very few taxis can take gear, as most of the wagons have cargo barriers installed. Maybe a maxi-taxi might take it.
One year, we used an airport shuttle bus to get our gear to the hire car place. I think the trailer had racks built into it to tie our gear to.
Other years I have rented vans from the airport, but I am not sure how many companies do that now. Renting a station wagon would probably be a good idea, as you can usually fit your gear in the back.
go to any cheaper looking car yard and buy a euro-limo. commodore or falcon station wagon.most travellers just on sell them to other travellers when the leave oz. usually the cheapest option.
for cheaper camper van with lots of gear look on perth gumtree in ute van section as most backpacker sell there vans there for $2k to $8k with lots of extras as they need to leave the country. easy to grab a bargin.
