Given that summer is fast fading and wild winter fronts are not far away, now is a good time to mention we are planning a wave event and a freerace event for the winter season.

Planning is VERY preliminary and with permits still to be obtained but the concept is

Wind: >20 knots (solid all day forecast)
Swell: >3.5m (freerace will be on relatively flat water)
Location: best for the day (we are getting permits for the typical winter spots)
Dates: any weekend within a 3 month window from the 1st July
Notification: SMS will be used to notify ALL registered sailors that the event is go.
Waves Format: TBA (probably not man on man single elimination, time will be tight and it is too cold to judge all day)
Freerace: 1 hour race within a set area. Use GPS to measure distance and speed. Probably shorter if it is really blowing.

Due to logistics, the Freerace and Waves may need to be two different days. This will depend on volunteers and rescue boats etc.

Apart from a great forecast, what else is needed to make these two events work?

Coffee Van is already on the To Do List.

Me too.

I think some sort of duty volunteer roster, for the registered sailors, I'm guessing a lot of those doing the free race might not be up for waves? And maybe vise versa? I stand corrected if I'm wrong (I know there are plenty of sailors who do both), but maybe if this is the case we can help each other out if the events are on different days?

Maybe if it is the case of a lot of sailors doing both, we could sub out for an event or two, to act as volunteers?
