Planning to visit WA in December from United States. Would appreciate suggestions on windsurfing spots and gear rental shops. Our windsurfing skill level is med to advance, thanks.

Hi Nikecheeks,

Can you be more specific? Are you after flat water sailing or waves? There aren't any waves to be had around Perth, - you generally have to travel north or south a bit to find any decent ones. There is no shortage of good flat water sailing local to Perth.

North of Perth (Lancelin, Geraldton, etc) the wind is stronger and more consistent. South of Perth (eg. Margaret River coast) has good waves but the wind isn't as strong or reliable, unless you go further around to the SE past Albany.

Definitely look at a map and measure some distances....WA is a very big place!

On that point. be aware that WA alone is a full 1/3 the size of the 48 contiguous states. I'm on the south coast, and this time of the year we usually get either SW storm fronts or not much at all - it's right in the middle of Winter here. Late Spring and right through Summer we get consistent sea breezes pretty much every day, anything from 20 to 30 knots.

Have fun.

Geraldton is a must, Google it there's a few places to hire from, flat water and waves.

Btw, I don't know what's west of Albany, but here and eastwards there's no gear hire at all.
