I've just moved to Currambine and was looking for places other people windsurfing in the Joondalup area, OTHER than Pinnaroo Point? Any ideas??????
Hey Mike,
I am living in Butler at the moment and there are a few of us that windsurf down at Quinns Rocks, we usually meet in the car park in front of the Quinns cafe, there's only a handful of us that sail there and mainly in the summer but come on down the more the merrier.
I do like sailing at Pinnaroo point but i find after work for a quick sail its just a little bit too far given that we no longe rhave that extra hour of light due to daylight savings having disappeared.
I've just put a place marker on google maps where we normally rig up, theres a grassy area and a toilet and shower block and a bottle shop and cafe just across the road so its good for a beer after the sail in the summer

hey Alimac south of where you sail there's some inside reefs about 300m offshore any wave sailing to be had on these?
Does old Ernie sail up that way?
I and a few others sometimes go to Mullaloo, the north or south end. The kitesurfers have a designated spot in the middle, which is a small section. Just be careful to avoid the life savers flagged areas, and take it slow when coming in close as all that stretch has 8 knot markers and plenty of swimmers and clubies on the training days. Its better than pin though. I tend to go out, and make it real obvious you going slow and being mindful, and then sail a few hundred meters up from the club house and just gybe early when coming in and the clubbies are on their sprint training on their kayaks/paddle boards. Then you get no hassles. Its a nice spot.
Hey All,
There's no waves at Quinns it's like sailing at Pinnas just a bit flatter and not so much like being in a washing machine.
Having said that i have been looking at Jindalee recently, it would be a bit of a pain to launch but directly out from the beach there is a wave that i have seen looking good a couple of times, over to the right of their is alkimos but i've never heard anyone talk about sailing there so not sure about that one.
I'd be keen to do a mission from Jindalee one day and see what that waves like.
Yeah I've driven to Jindalee and looked out a few times and seen those waves not sure how to get the gear down to the water.
I have heard of a few guys sailing alkimos launching from a boat years ago.
Shouldn't be too long now before some roads go in.
Hey Alimac23
Thanks for the heads up. I drove up to Quinns on the weekend to check it out, looks good. Nice place to rig up on the grass, and a cafe on top of the hill.
One question. Do you need to use a weed fin?
Thanks
Mike
Hi mike, we've sailed there lots and the weed is usually very minimal in the summer so I would say a weedie isn't necessary.
Hi Alimac23
Thanks for the info. Minimal weed = great news. Pinnaroo can be pretty weedy. What kind of gear are you sailing up there?
I'd be supa keen to have a look at the reef off Jindalee. Can't wait for the first seabreeze to kick the season off.
Thanks
Mike
Hey guys,
Yeah the weed at Pinnaroo has been particularly bad these last few nights.
Gonna start sailing up at Quinns again soon, as for kit i usually sail my 102l Freesyle wave in light conditions but the board i use most in the summer is an old starboard acid 88l or when its really honking ill go down to a 75l angulo.
It'd be nice to get a few more people up in that area sailing there, its a great spot and i think its much nicer to sail than pinnaroo (even just for the bottle shop right at the top
)
At the moment i have to work 1 night out of every 7 late until 5 but then every other night im finished at 3 and back up into quinns at 4.
Mike, Nebbian and anyone else who fancies it, the next windy night shall we meet down there and you guys can check it out and see what you think?
Meeting up at Quinnd at some point sounds great. I always feel better sailing when there is someone else around. Looking forward to it. All we need is a solid 25+ knots and it will be on...
Only places near Joondalup are:
Mullaloo
Little Island (seal island)
Pinnaroo
I'd be keen on trying out Jindalee spot.
You sail at the back of Seal Island. There's a narrow gap in the reef to go thru, just south of the island. The conditions out the back are variable, depending on the swell and tide. Very low tide can be a bit "dry" in area. I personally have sail there with almost flat water conditions and also with almost mast high conditions. It's a great spot for jumps and not so good for riding. All in all is good fun, but make sure your equipment is up for it.... it's a bitch of a swim.
