Hey,

travelling to WA in November for a month of windsurfing hopefully! Landing in perth and plan is to travel North and South of it for a few weeks. I am considering bringing gear with me but the eternal question of the 'right gear' needs to be answered.

Is it possible to rent gear in or around Perth, and take it away with you or do you have to sail at the specific rental locations? Would anyone have a link to a shop or rental spot near Perth? Don't want to travel from Ireland with wave gear and need 7m+ sails

What type of weather should i expect in WA in November - wave or slalom kit?
I understand it's not possible to accurately answer these but any info would be extremely helpful

Thanks
Dave

It's noy good to "expect" any sort of weather lately!

But the most frequently used wave sails in Perth in November would usually be between 5 & 6 meters.

A half metre or so smaller at Geraldton, and a bit bigger around Margaret River. But if you want to sail as much as possible a wider range of sails would help.

Minty, I'm from Sydney but have been to WA a couple of times. There are a few shops in Perth and they will hire out the latest gear & you could theoretically have it for a trip to Margaret River and to Lancelin. Geraldton is 4-5 hours north and there is a shop in town and sail & surf 10 minutes north. Driving is easy and you only need a small car, light traffic once you are out of Perth.

Take whatever gear you can, at least boom and sails. WA - they are spoilt for wind and supposedly average 20-25 days a month over 15 knots. I guess you will sail at least 12 days in November but they can have a fews days of light wind if a low pressure system is loitering (the horror!)

Margaret R you may use a 5.2 - 5.5 and Gero a 4.0. Check the WA graphs from late OCT and you get the idea. It's bloody windy!!

I went over last year from QLD for 12 days...

I took a 6.1, 5.4 and 4.5... The 6.1 didnt even get wet....

I'm going back at the end of this year but for 6 weeks this time

All I'll be taking is my 5.4 and 4.5! Cant wait...

Hi Dave,
I would recommend to bring or hire the following sails 5.3 4.7 and 4.2
These are the sails you need in WA with a 74 to 85 liter wave board.
Down south the season starts later. You will be using your 5.3 the almost 95%. So going to Geralton would be the best call
