I am from Albany and chasing some good wave sailing spots have spoken to a guy who pioneered wave sailing in WA and he says Lights Beach in Denmark has potential. Anyone had any experience sailing there?

Lights, Parrys & Ocean beach. What about Nanarup?
I've sailed Lights twice. The first time I waited 30mins for a gap in the sets. The second I ended up going over the rocks at the eastern end. It is not for the fainthearted/short of kit.
If you want something a bit less sketchy try Mandalay beach. It's still not the easiest spot but is a lot more manageable.
That looks like ramhead an the mag would be talkin about hopetown out east an yeh there is a big white pointer that hangs around crazies
Cheers for the tips guys. Nannarup is my local surf beach and have tried sailing there but is too gusty or too onshore to get any good. If anyone has a secret spot they could pm me I can guarantee I won't be telling as I don't know of any wave sailers down here
Yeah I've been there a few times & thought if it wasn't for the island it would be a good spot. I suppose if it's howling, it might not be so bad.
There's a group of younger (under 40) local guys here that regularly sail freestyle gear on the harbour near the Princess Royal Yacht Club but also get out in the waves on their wave boards. One of the guys told me years ago that they were wavesailing at Muttonbird. Will see one of the guys this Wednesday and ask him where they usually wavesail around Albany these days.

My folks live down there so I'm down a fair bit, down for 3 weeks over chrissy, I've probably sailed when you guys have been out at the Yacht club. Be good to get out on the waves though. I've tried middelton beach, but that was just too onshore. Might try Denmark.
Yeh there is about 6 local guys sailin down there unfortunetly im not down there any more but as for wave sailin parrys out denmark is ok but can be a long drive an not quiet the rite direction or always seems to be 5/10kn less so most off the time we just come home an sail the harbour but there is another spot out peacefull bay called ram head that is sic on the rite conditions if its good you might run into afew sailers out there ya best option is just head down the harbour afterwork an chat with the boys most live out the grove so if its wind there normally out

Also, did you sail anywhere on Saturday? (there were gusts up to 39 knots at Albany airport!)

With the prevailing breeze, Nanarup would be onshore wouldn't it, making it virtually unsailable. That's what I've found in Albany, any spots with any potential just don't work because of the wind direction.

Sort of and maybe....
The main problem when I've sailed there is wind strength - usually Easter when I go camping there and the winds are pretty gutless so I don't take my gear down anymore.
The bay does actually curve a fair bit so it is open to a range of wind directions although the shore break is a killer if you're under powered or it's big(gish).
I will put you out of your misery as it???s not really a secret location and would be great to have some fellow sailors out at some point. It???s Lights Beach in Denmark but it???s very sketchy getting out and would not be much fun if there was any more onshore in it due to the orientation of the rocks. Nannarup wasn???t very good as when it was proper cross shore it was very gusty and ended up claiming my mast but still probably easier and better than scarbs on an average day.
