I'm heading up to Coral Bay later in the year and want to take my sailing gear. Does anyone know if you can sale up in Coral Bay. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike
From recollection, you cant sail in Coral Bay where all the tour boats and camp sites are, BUT you can sail in the bay to the south, where the boat ramp is.
all flat water sailing as well.
I sailed there years ago,out from the main beach in a north direction (from memory).
Beware the coral Bombie out crops - these where all over the place and all where just under the surface, enough to rip out fins (tide depending).
They where impossible to see depending on the posistion of the sun in the sky.
I recall swapping gear with a guy who had ripped his fin out on a bombie and sailing a couple of ks
Back to shore in full on freestyle mode.
Pic below was from the same trip and shows the view from the main beach.
Why dont you stop at denham on the way up sailed the there last year on slalom gear 10 km reaches in flat water but watch out for longnecks (turtles) .had a nasty incident .but a gr8 spot check it out.![]()
Last year a great Dutch windsurfing couple we know called Arco and Ester were managing the local supermarket, dont have an email for them but I am sure if you check when you arrive they will know where to go, they are good sailors!
There's been a spate of irukandji stings past few weeks. Probably good to be aware of what to do in case you or anyone you know gets stung by one.
