Hi all,

Im just writing quickly to mention that me and my bro will be coming over at the end of the year for a 6 week trip.... We're want to have a van that we can use to take us up and down the coast, basically where ever the wind is....

We did it last year for 2 weeks and hired a wicked van.... Wasnt the best choice... We were thinking of just buying a van as soon as we get there and then trying to sell it before we go.... Anyone know of any other options? We dont really wanna hire as we'll pay a **** load to hire a van for 6 weeks and well end up with nothing at the end of it...

Ideally we want to buy something then sell it back to the owner/dealer when we have finished.... Anyone experienced something similar? We cant really think of any other way to do it...

Cheers!

Mate,

You can buy my van for 12k. Will give you 6k back!

3x the Gnaraloo track depreciates a car quite a bit.....

Mucksy,

A mate and i drove to WA last season for 5 week tour of duty from Coffs Habour on the east coast. We did trip over in 3 days and got late arvo sail on arrival in lancelin that arvo. The whole trip was about 14000 km by time we had chased the wind up and down coast from margs to gero and came home via Esperance, had a fat time.
Cost to us was $ 3150 in fuel total ($ 1.50 average in diesel land cruiser 12L per 100 kms) plus 3 services and 1000.0 dollars getting car ready for big trip.
It was a great experience, its a long way but if you don't muck around can be done in 3 - 4 days. The benfit is bring all your camping gear and extra stuff to make the most of it, surf boards, sups etc.
But if you look at the dollars i think you could fly and hire for same cost.

I know at start of wind season, suitable windsurf wagons to buy are in demand but towards the end of the season, they are a dime a dozen as the euro's leave aus, and become give away prices. The hire vehicle option is some times cost effective, just thought i'd give you my experience, hope you have a blast.

Cheers James.
