Wedge Island Social Waves is on this weekend.www.windsurfingwa.org.au/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=details&id=11:Social%20Waves%20event%20(Wedge/Greenhead)&Itemid=30
Being the first true wave event for the season the plan is to have a casual event to get people back on the water and competing. The format will be the same as last year whereby we meet on the beach north of Wedge Island around lunchtime, pick a good spot and run 4 man heats.
The first heats on the water will be Juniors and Novices.
The novice heat/s follow on from the Avalon Amateurs and are designed to give people the opportunity to try out competitive wave sailing. It was great fun last year so come around and give it a go.
Being a beach break there is plenty of room to continue sailing if you don't win through to the next round and there is always a need for people to help with judging heats.
Weather A final call on the weather will be made Thursday but at the moment Saturday is looking to be the pick of the days.
Membership Please note that you need to be a paid up member of WWA for this event to cover insurance etc etc. We are not able to take membership applications on the beach. For this event ALL membership applications must be in by Thursday night to enable time for processing.http://www.windsurfingwa.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=18
Entry Fees This is a free event for all WWA members and members of affiliate clubs (Geraldton, Safety Bay)
Saturday still looks to be the best option for the weekend. So all is go for Saturday.
Registration
Registration will be from 12pm to 1pm on the beach. First heat on the water at 1pm wind permitting.
Location
North of Wedge Island about 1 km, not far, look for a silver mitsubishi triton and WWA banner/flags.
Typically the beach is hard packed and can be tackled with a 2wd but I have not been up to Wedge for a while.
If you are not keen on driving on the beach send me a message and a lift can be organised. Or, rig up at Wedge and sail downwind to where we are on the beach and get a lift back to your car at the end of the day.
Couldn't make it today :(
Is it on tomorrow also, or was 10th/11th on the calendar meant to denote one day but whichever has most wind?
Bizarre Day on Saturday. Dutchies was a 16 - 18 knt gusty grovel, whilst a couple of km's south the Sailing Worlds had solid 20knt + anyware north appeared to get on. it was weird one that is for sure. ![]()
