This long weekend the WA Kite Surfing Association (WAKSA) are hosting the Australian Freestyle Kiteboarding Nationals on the pond.
Please give them the space they will need to host an awesome event. Probably best to windsurf somewhere else this weekend unless you wear boardies over your wet suit and have your jumpy twisty dangling spinny tricks on point.

all other brands: 15 points
bonus 100 points if you manage to outrun the angry kiters.

I reckon they'll enjoy the odd windsurfer blasting down the speedrun mid boost
They don't seem to mind cutting through the slalom course when ever we are racing down there 
I jest. It should be a pretty good event with great vantage points around the pond.
I hope they put up a sign somewhere.
Last year or the year before, my friend and I were sailing there, and the wind was pretty crappy.
Someone came up to me on a kite and said 'we are running a competition you know...'. How would I know they were running a competition. There looked to be the same amount of kiters on the water as normal, and given that they were all over the other side, you couldn't even tell what was going on as there are normally people there taking photos or just watching.
If they want to take over a public spot, at least it would be good to put up signs before hand so that you know to go somewhere else.

Pretty sure there is technically nothing they can do to make you leave if you've really got your heart set on sailing there. All they can really do is ask politely if you'd mind sailing somewhere else. Its more of a courtesy thing not sailing there while its on.

The slalom gets around this as we use the Yacht Club's permits. That way we can get the rescue boats or other more regulatory bodies to move/ask people to vacate the area if required.

By notifying windsurfer that WAKSA is on the Pond this week hopefully everyone will make the right choice and go 1km down the road and sail from Carisle st. For the next WWA event we will request the same from WAKSA.

I was doing a kite lesson there when this was on. When learning everyone wants the shallow sand bar to use as its a great place where its shallow enough to get comfortable, get the board on, and then get going. Unfortunately this makes it a really busy place with beginners and they are going left and right.
The turning buoy was out of the way a bit in the deeper water, but you can sort of understand why kiters, especially learners, would end up interfering with the windsurfing course. It was pretty much just where they would be on a port tack.
I knew it was on, but I think most of the kiters would have had no idea.
