Just started sailing around Perth and couldn't resist braving the winter water. My very old(and obscenely tight) shortie wetsuit just doesn't cut it. What's the minimum thickness wetsuit are people using at this time of year? Any recomendations or ones to avoid?
Cheers
hey mate i bought a short arm long leg wetsuit for $270 and does the jos very well apart from the coldst days, about 3/3 or a 3/2 will do the job pretty well, just depends how much you wanna spend, the more you spend the more waterproof and flexible the wettie is...
but 3/2 is pretty good for perth (just personal experience
)
yeah 3x2 steamer. cheapest one will do..... you'll be a bit colder in a cheapie but won't notice it when the juices get flowing and the heart rate is up
and a p!ss is always an option to increase warmth
I've got a 2/2 short sleeve steamer and it's usually warm enough.
Got a bit nipply on Saturday with quite a bit of south in the breeze. Most of the fronts are West through NW and the wind chill isn't too bad.
I also wear a buoyancy vest which provides some extra warmth around the torso.
Spend the money and get a good suit...glued seams make a difference.
Cheers guys, think that I'll go for the 3/2 or 3/3 option. Don't think that I'm as brave as pointman. Will be nice to be able to feel my feet when I'm out next time, plus I'll probably get an extra half hours sailing just on the time it took to get into the old wetsuit.
Cheers guys,
Being african I wimped out of the short sleeves option and went for 3/2 steamer full length with glued seams and etc. Was toasty warm all arvo and falling in is now an acceptable option again. ![]()
