Hi !!
I'm sorry if I talk about it but I need to know ...
It seems that we will have a big Westerly front this Week end (Friday to Monday ...)
I'm planing to take a day off so that I have a 3 day Week end and so that I can move around Perth (up north ... down south I don't really care !).
The waveriding in Perth is not really good with big Westerly wind (too onshore ... dutchies is not really good, and crazies is not really a Wave spot ...).
I'm sure that there is a good place in these conditions ... Margaret River ? Lancelin ? Geraldton ? Coros ? Gnaraloo ?
Isnt it too onshore in these places too ?
Margaret River for example ?? Or Geraldton ??
Please give me some hope ...
Yeah just go south coast to Denmark area. I know one place that would be sick starboard tack sailing before Denmark but it's to hard to describe how to get there and it's a 4wd only track and preferably a proper one like a cruiser or a patrol
um yeah. generally in winter with these westerly fronts, which tend to be more nw to nne when they come through here we go to the surrounding lakes. Later on in the year ( summer ) when it's mainly easterly ( SE is what we wait for )through to SW. then is the time to make the effort to get here. ![]()
Esperance...
Ok thanks guys !!
So you are sure that Margaret River won't be manageable ??
Isn't there any onshore winds protected spot ??
What about Dunsborough or Busselton??
Is there some waves ??
I'm looking on the maps around Denmark ...
Don't have a lot of choices : Ocean Beach (I know that it can be amazing for surfing but windsurfing ??)
William Bay ... no idea !
Peaceful Bay ... the same !
Walpole Beach ... hard to get there !
Where are the reefs ??
What habout Windy Harbour ??
If I ask too many questions ... just say me to close my mouth but I'd love to find a good place for this week end !
And I will certainly have a 4wd (thanks to a friend)
Thanks guys !!
I've never sailed dunsborough but I hear a couple of guys around here say that when the swell is bit it can. E fun for jumping and a some bear aways
Got to watch those bears
Fourth Beach at Esperance in a westerly. Down the line and very good sailing but very very dangerous. No more then a 2.5m swell and even then that will give occasional mast hi closeouts that run about 200m long... there is no escaping them. I very nearly died there and you will usually be sailing alone midweek.
It is the best winter spot in WA but you do have to factor in 9hr drive and danger factor.....
I've sailed Parry's in A westerly, (I think, it was ages ago, late 80s I think), It's a big bay and then you could drive on the beach in a 2 wheel drive, until you get to a small creek. Waves get bigger as you go round the bay, and of course the wind angle also changes. Only a beach break but it was good fun.
But much closer to home, what about Port Kennedy?
Hey guys !!
So at the moment I'm planing to go on the south coast yeah ... I think Esperance will be too far for me (and my little ****ing crappy **** car ... Daewoo 700 bucks !).
So I'm wondering about Parry Beach near Denmark ...
It seems to be a good orientation !!
What do you think about Augusta ... Flinders Bay??
Can we windsurf there on a big Westerly ??
Augusta - no
Flinders bay - no
Both will be offshore. augusta will be cross off and the waves there are not very good.
they are very very frequent.
Sorry champ
wrong time of year unfortunately.![]()
I reckon the north end of Bunkers could be okay. The swell wraps around there and depending on the exact wind direction, it might be an option. Alternately for the serious, if its a NW the south side of Margs main break is doable but can be scary. I went out once in a NW storm about 15 years ago...pooed my pants, turned around and came straight back in lol.
only .if you are happen to be down there
you can sail margaret river on a W and big swell
just launch from boat ramp,, had a nice sail there once, the day after my wedding.
plenty of protection here from the monster swells, and do an easy launch from beach.
plenty of room to play n on the inside bay, some nice reform waves rolling through, although a bit onshore.
there is a rerally wierd nice bomerang/whirlpool wave at the end of the run out...i think locals call it centre of the universe
{be careful not to get too greedy and head to far out though,,,,,backwash rip from the bombie could end up in tears}
launch here,, fun
bit hairy out back ![]()

Have you found a better sparky than me yet? I think not.
