The yellow and red sail is me. The pink and blue sail is Malcom Mckercher (Scotty's brother).
For most of the race we had about 1-2 knots so Mal and I had to pump for about 2 hours (allowed in this race). In the end I beat him by about 3 seconds in the run up the beach.
Bring back the Bridge to Bridge!!..and the Neddy Olympics..and the Intergalactic & Local Waters series!!!
Yeah I agree Bring it Back.
I would love to sail with a group from one bridge to another followed by a BBQ as a social event.
I use to sail regularly from Melville waters to Pelican Point and back again.
Light wind sailing on a big Wally was very relaxing.
Here is my effort later in 1990..
Wally sailor did you ever read the little gem of a book in the background by Jeremy Evans? A classic!
Heavy Weight...... Noted
Why you little....!!![]()
Hi ManOverBoard
If you sailed from Nedlands Yacht Club I think we might know each other. I sailed at NYC from 1982-1988 (or thereabouts)
I have the same trophy from 1986 State Titles, 3rd and in the same year I came 3rd in the Bridge to bridge (in photo). I went to Tasmania with 2 other west aussies for the Nationals 1986/87 and saw snow for the first time in January. I think it was the only Nationals sailed where it snowed! For a Perth boy it was a bit cold :) btw I came 10th in the Light Heavyweight div and qualified for the world titles in South Africa, but could not afford to go.
I haven't read the book, but will have a look around for it.
Cheers
