A mate and I are coming over to WA for the summer (6 weeks), so will need to stay somewhere... (yeehar...!!!) We're planning tenting it for most of the period, so will need to chase up caravan parks -> in particular, I am planning on taking part in the Ocean-Classic so will need a few days accom in/near Lancelin.

All reviews of the Lancelin parks are very ordinary.... does anyone have a suitable suggestion for somewhere else, or should I just go with one of the two available? And how long should I plan to stay, ie: is one night sufficient or should I include a few days before?

Also, the plan is to drive the coast looking for good spots to sail (eg Coros, Gero, Monkey Mia, Exmouth), what is the likelyhood of the parks being booked out?

Lancelin: you have no choice, just stay in either of them. You'll always be on the water or in the pub anyway

Anywhere north of Gero don't bother, too late in the season for Exmouth or Shark Bay areas it is likely to be stinking hot with no seabreezes. They are more of an October type thing really.

Was in Lano a couple of weeks ago and looks like the North End caravan park (near to hotel) is closed, or closing down.
They are going to built units on there.

So I would suggest the caravan park in front of main break is the only option.

If you want a spot for the ocean classic I would be booking now, because that caravan park is basically 85% full of permanent vans and there aren't that many spots available.

There are plenty of houses etc. for rent tho.

Shameless plug http://www.automated.com.au/LAS/Property/Property_5_Ayres/Index.htm

(but its already booked for the Classic weekend, you could try the other properties they rent out)

I wouldnt hole my breath about them building those units on the north end caravan park. They seem to regularily suggest things like that and then nothing ever happens. Though this might be the one that does go ahead !

Try the 4 seasons caravan park at Ledge point (Lano start point) You may get lucky, they have on site villas and such. Google 4 seasons

Thanks folks - I think we'll just kip in the van for the duration of L2L... sounds like the easiest thing to do.

Now just need to get "downwinder" practice...
