This is my first season in Perth and I thought that the winds were meant to be South Westers, however the forecast says Southerly's. is this normal? Can anyone tell me the best place to sail in a Southerly wind? No waves for me.
Thanks

Dave, if your down in the Southern Suburbs then a few places are great. Woodman Point (referred to as Woodies) and Safety Bay.
From the City the good spots are Peli Point and Lucky Bay. To get some real good insight, head down to Peli Point tomorrow evening,(Wednesday 5pm, located off Hackett Drive near boat ramp) the WWA group have a bit of informal race fun, BBQ and good catch up with the local lads who have all the knowledge. Ask for Mark Slade, or Ben Hitchcock they will put you right.
Up in Northern Suburbs Pinneroo Point is a good spot, lawn, parking and showers.

G'day Dman

The seabreeze is most commonly SSW. If it is SW, it will probably not be as strong, and the strong ones tend to move more towards southerly in the late afternoon / evening.

Mineral's list is a good one, although Lucky Bay is often known as "Melville Beach" after Melville Beach Road, Applecross which runs all the way along it.

You tend to get southerlies for a day or two after a trough passes inland and then the seabreeze tends SSW or SW and weakens as the temp heats up again for a day or two. At the peak of the heat with a trough just off the coast you get little to no seabreeze, then the trough moves inland and it starts over again.
This occurs in a roughly weekly cycle.
