Spotted a noah this afternoon about 250m on the eastern side of the channel markers. I had just come off the plane (gusty SE) and was bobbing when it appeared about 35 metres away from me. There was no one around and I was about 3KMs offshore. After I had completed ****ting myself I tacked and prayed for a gust. No gust and it surfaces again. After I had completed ****ting myself for the second time I continued to pray for a gust. Looking around the whole time imagining this thing swimming under my board and no gust in site I was beginning to freak myself out. Finally a gust, a few pumps and I am out of there. Straight back to shore for a change of underwear.
Speaking to the Freo Water Police later this afternoon they told me that had recently tagged 4 Great Whites (all 4 metres +) in the Perth Metro Area and were monitoring them with a new warning device system being implemented across the metro region this summer. Unfortunately their warning device system does not cover Safety Bay at the moment and it only goes off if the shark comes within 100 metres of shore.
They are out there so take care. I guess the lesson is when it is blowing a gusty offshore wind, overcast, dark and grey stay home and mow the lawn.
FARK ME!!!
I just shat myself reading your story!!!
My heart started racing and I think I read your whole post in one breath!!!
Can I breath now???
Glad your safe. Stay in the waves and closer to shore John![]()
JJJs... Johno scary story!! Thanks for the warning! Stay save, in one piece..
Unusual for you been so far, you always play near the shore ;)
I would not have tacked (apart from the fact that I cant tack)... but that is the sort of situation I know I would fall in at... and then with no wind, not be able to waterstart... not fun.
Hey John,
that would suck going all the way to g'loo for your first time, surviving that, especially with all the men in grey suits up there, snakes, monster reef bombie - then coming home to nearly meet your maker in SAFEty bay.![]()
We should change your nickname to Wobbles, for managing to stay on your board with legs like jelly and a heartbeat you could see from the beach.
I take it your wetsuit needs a good wash then?![]()
i speak for the Freo Water Police im sorry i ws to busy getting free donuts from donut king....

theres only 4 white pointers this year. dont worry we know there there but wont alarm the public.... sigh
Excuse my ignorance to that area but what the fark was you doin 3ks out !asking for it in the deep blue.

What type of Shark do you think you saw??
Good news is Windsurfers don't feature heavily in shark attack statistics.
Shame you couldn't attract the attention of a kiter to come over to where you were boobing LOL!!!![]()

The good news is That Sharks Apparently do not like to eat human beings.
The bad news is that by the time they reailise this your already in three peices!
Holy Moley!!! It's a pity there wasn't any kiters around. So annoying!!!! You must have been pretty way out. Have to be careful in a easterly wind especially as it is inconsistent. Anything can happen out there.
