I sailed there today launching from the pond as parking was closed at Carlisle street due to the dredging. Is it just due to the low tide that the sand bar on both the eastern side of the boating channel and the sand bar that runs out in front of the Yacht club were so exposed? Or is this the future layout of the bay? Could this be a positive for windsurfing there for the short term as the Carlisle street side was the flattest I've ever seen it. I only sail there a couple of times a year and I'm aware the pond is slowly filling up with sand.
When tides get back to normal levels the sand bar out front of the yacht club will be submerged most of the time but best to go carefully when you go over it first time each session. Could be a good speed run if we get the right winds with a low tide. Who knows but that sand bar could be a permanent feature in the next few years as it does seem to be growing. It may even form another pond for your kite

NO KITES ALLOWED
Spring tides are always low, tides on Sunday were extremely low due to high atmospheric pressure.
The sand bars are not usually exposed

Is weed and issue at safety bay? Do you need to sail with a weed fin?
Not allways but most of the year. Should not be too bad this time of year or early summer. Any other time a 45 deg weed fin is essential.

I have become so used to using weed fins at Safety Bay that I use them everywhere. I can't remember the last time I have used pointer fins.
The other benefit of weed fins at Safety Bay is that they make the sandbars far more forgiving at low tide. As it is, I have hit them a few times.

Gareth, I bought a twin-fin Hifly from you a while back, which is the second one I own. One thing I found them useful for was for us heavyweights being able to get over the sand bar at Safety Bay with twin weedfins. It gets pretty shallow and I am sure I have seen people follow me over it and wonder how I was clearing it.
Then again, I have seen someone in the pond with a formula board, so I am not sure how he was doing it either.

Sounds like my F2 twin fins with MUF Delta XT50 fins will do the trick.
I Was using a 22 delta last January ,with a 7,0 and it was perfect going across the bank ,heading out to Warnbro..
I've since filleted it and feels a lot more positive .smaller fins would be idea .
its a great place to sail .and has a number of different areas offering different conditions ...
Went past safety bay today. Looks like the pointless digging out of the boat channel is complete. One front end loader tidying up the beach and I suspect the fencing of the Carlisle st car park will be down by the weekend. Just in time for the nazi rangers to start giving out tickets again.

what are the rangers giving tickets for?
Where are you allowed to park?
From what I remember Anita, there is one ranger who tickets you if you park in the Carpark without a boat trailer, Even though there are no boaties using the ramp once the sea breeze fills in.
The signage however is not specific to which park bays and also is not to "council standard".
I also think the ranger in question was reprimanded about her actions so hopefully there's a ease in fines and a bit more understanding. Nice to know the SBYC Commodore is a ranger as well.
Its been a running battle for years. The Carlisle st car park is supposed to be cars with trailers only which is fine when its not windy. When it is windy and ther are no or few boats out the rangers ( some of them) would seem to rather see an empty car park just because some stupid by law says it is so. I have had 1 ticket and contested it and won and have been moved on several times. Pictures they have taken of my van must have filled up an sd card by now. Must be a high turnover of people who run the show as once they have seen sence the next year they start to try and re enforce the rule again.
