Who was the tosser with the red goyer sail snaking waves at mettams. I spoke to a few guys that he kept doing it to. I need to have a firm word with him in person, didn't get the chance to I had to leave early. Is he on seabreeze? Who else was snaked by him.
If people are going to start throwing stones let me chuck one out there as well...
For people who don't sail Metts often or are doing it for the first time..
Please don't gybe in the impact zone.
You may think your keeping clear by gybing early and staying further out but what you are doing is falling / crashing right where people are either wave riding in or trying to jump on the way out.
If you look you will see that regular sailors come right into the shore, well away from the impact zone.
Hay, if your fall trying to bust a loop or smack a lip, then good on ya of coarse be in the zone, but these poorly attempted gybes in a narrow wave sailing spot are wrong.
If you don't understand this then don't sail there.
I too was snaked by him a couple of times... second time i just went downwind a bit and rode the second peaking section of the wave.
Sorry Dunedinite, I gybed a few times on the inside, but most of the time it was when there were no waves to ride (hence why I gybed instead of riding the wave in)
After just starting sailing from a 17 year break I am about 3-4 weeks away from sailing at Metts again on account that I live 400m away.
Makes a lot of sense, couldn't be me though on account that i can't Gybe.
Great to see diplomacy is alive and well...
Yep he snaked me too ![]()
But another guy on Thursday jumped on my wave down wind of me did one bottom to top turn the started to travel back to the shore just in front of the wave, which mean't I was on a head on collision course with him as I was lining up for my second top turn!!!! what tha! I don't mind sharing waves but hey that's just rude and inconsiderate. I had to weave thru 3 guys heading out to avoid him and the tip of my mast clipped the top back clew of someones sail, sorry about that whoever it was![]()
Sailing at Scarbs and Metts I notice that at Metts theres more competition, attitude and pushiness there. I think its cause the break is so small and good waves are few and far between this mentality has had to evolve. At Scarbs theres less attitude and more "organized" catching and sharing of waves, but the overall level of wave sailing there is a lot higher, maybe that helps.
Too much jargon in here for a gumbie like me.
What's snaking? I can't figure that at all from the above.
What's the impact zone? Is that where the waves are breaking? If so, I can rest easy - I gibe 25 metres from shore round here, to be sure.
Guys, I'm not pointing fingers at certain people (Filth or Nebbian)
it's just a few new punters rocking up.
Why do they all seem to be wearing seat-harnesses?
To me that's a dead give away.
Go with the flow and do what the regulars do.
Can I help with the Blue Ezzy, his Mum works at the local Shop.
his name is thomas, he's a poser. just cos you can fwd loop doesn't mean you own the break. have some courtesy ![]()
He snaked me a few times too
I have spoken to him on the beach just in general and he seems like a good bloke. Not a very talkative fella. Could be confused with being either arrogant or just shy?
Maybe someone needs to talk to him?
Hey RBGlee - you are a genuine gumby aren't you.
