I'm planning a few weeks holiday around Perth and having never been there I need some advice from the local sailers before I book accommodation. I will be there early November so hopfully there will be some wind.

We are driving over from Qld and the plan is to spend 6 days at Cervantes, then 4 days at Ocean Reef/Hillarys and then another 4 days at Safety Bay. I prefer GPS speed sailing and am quite happy with bump and jump conditions but I have never sailed in surf and would rather stay away from surf sailing locations. I sail open ocean in Central Qld but we don't have surf here. I will be bringing a 110lt JP Exite and a 84lt JP slalom with 5.4 up to 7.1 cammed sails.

Please tell me if you think these locations will suit my sailing?? I am relying on the internet for research so chip in if you have a better idea?

More questions, Do I need a weed fin?? Could I get away with just buying a weedy for the 84lt board that I have to water start??

I will be spending anouther 2 weeks traveling home via Margaret River, Albury, Esperance and SA coast through to Port Augusta so any further advice on these area's is also appreciated.

Last question, Is Little Creatures Pale Ale cheaper to over there, I hope so $65 a carton in qld.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,
little creature(worlds best drop!!)
about 60 bucks is the max here for a carton.
best bet is to buy in bulk and take it back with you!

yep a weedy would help in all the locations you have mentioned..prob get 1 to suit your small board.

Cervantes is fine for flatwater, even Lancelin if you stay inside the reef break (which is quite a way out), Safety Bay is good, Ocean Reef I don't have much experience with. The river is also good for flatwater speed sailing, also Mandurah Estuary at Novara.
Safety Bay & Mandurah - weedfin essential.
Last summer a weedy was essential for the river also, but that's unusual.
Weedy useful for Lancelin but not essential. Cervantes probably similar but I don't know.
If you want to plane you need a weedfin, unless you are good at jumping the weed off. Otherwise you hook one piece of weed, drop off the plane and just chug along.

No flatwater around Margaret River.
Esperance good sailing in the bay.
