Hi guys,
i brought a brand new board last weekend thats never been in the water and when i took the screw out (which ive been taught to do after instructing windsurfing and setting up windsurf centres for 5 years) to check for damage the rubber washer was split completely rendering it useless.
Its a JP FSW 102 and i need a new rubber washer for it and i work in the city everyday, does anyone know where i can get a replacement for it without going back to the windsurf shop?
Try your local Engineering, or Plumbing supplies place.. it's just an o-ring. Take the screw with you and see if they can find something that'll fit.
Even Bunnings may have something. (but it'll take you a couple of hours to find it, and you'll probably come out with a new powertool that you weren't really intending to buy as well)
The last ones I bought were about 7 cents each. So I had to buy a few.
Might pay to let the windsurf shop know though - I'm sure they don't want people wrecking new boards by assuming that they're perfect straight out of the shop.
if you cant find the right one scan the old one and send it true size to me. ive got 100s of them. pm me and ill mail a few to you for nix.
I must admit it's a bit weird. When you go pick up a new one, the screw and foot straps are all bagged separately from the board. these are usually inspected in store before they are fitted to the board. If it's a dud, then it would be replaced on the spot.
Either way, your local shop can help.
Yep I thought it was odd too, when I got the board the straps had already been screwed in and the valve had too and the board was in a bag, I thought that was how you guys sold them new across here ![]()
Thanks everyone for all the advice I'll drop by WSP tomorrow which is where I got it from.
Hi all,
I went across to WSP yesterday and the guys there were brilliant! Reg was very helpful and gave me 3 new o-rings plus another screw and washer combo which I thought was fantastic service and also some advice on where to sail.
Just to let you all know, when I was fitting the replacement o-ring I felt around inside the hole and there was a little jagged piece of plastic which must have cut through the washer the first time so just a thought for the future when buying a new board that it might be worth just having a feel for any sharp bits inside the screw hole!
